Just wondering for those who have had a c/s.......did you just get stitches or did you also get staples? Is it just doc preference? I have never had staples and not sure what to expect.
Yep, what PP said, it depends on your doctor. I had stitches but I have had plenty of friend who delivered via c-section with a different doctor at the same hospital and they all had staples.

It's two things - what the hospital is equipped for and doc preference.
With my 1st, I had dissolvable stitches on the inside and they used the dermabond glue on the outside. It was fantastic. I didn't have to worry about having staples removed or starry strips.
I had my 2nd at a different hospital because we have since moved to another state. This hospital did not even have the glue as an option as they didn't carry it - at least not in the maternity ward/OR's. My options were staples or stitches - I chose staples at my doc's rec because she said they gave better results in terms of scarring, etc.
Luckily staples aren't the only option. I was closed up with dis-solvable stitches inside and the glue on the outside. I was surprised that my incision didn't even have anything on it. No strips no bandage nothing. My friend had a section the month prior to mine and she had staples. Her recovery was longer than mine was. I don't know if that was just bad luck on her part or not though.
I was given the choice. The nurse recommended stitches because then I didn't have to have them removed. I went with stitches. Most of my friends that had c/s had staples.

I had staples. THis awesome pic was from the hospital the day after my c-section. They took the staples out right before I went home and put steri strips on.

My dr glued me back together. Everyone in the hospital kept admiring her work(I had a lot of complications and was in the hospital for nearly a month so a lot of nurses and drs saw me)

Staples. They worked beautifully for me. It was really no big deal. They removed them (with a stapler remover that looked like it came from Office Depot!) right before I left the hospital and put on steri strips, which gradually fell off over 10 days or do.
Never hurt, itched or anything. My recovery was easy and my scar looks fantastic.

I had stitches on the inside, staples on the outside. The day I went home, they took out my staples and put steri-strips.
Same here. I was so freaked out when I got the staples but you know I felt they gave me more support after the c/s and they came out like a breeze. I was so nervous I asked for extra pain killers for the removal because Hello your coming at me with a staple remover?? But honestly didnt feel a thing I felt so silly that I was so scared.
I had staples with my first, but this time my OB is going to use stitches. The research data she has been reading indicates an increase in infection when staples are used in abdominal procedures. So in an effort to reduce my chance of infection we have decided stitches over staples this time around.

I have had 3 scheduled c-sections with 3 different doctors in the same practice.
I had staples with DS1 and DS2. Totally doctor's preference and in my opinion the doctor's laziness!!! I had stiches with DS3 and they were soooooo much better!!!!
I guess my OBGYN must have used glue or something, because I only had steri strips on the outside. I probably had stitches on the inside, but I never really asked.

I had dermabond outside and dissolvable stitches on the inside. It was really easy because I didn't have to worry about steri strips or having anything removed.
I had stitches with my first two, staples with #3. My third, I was told, staples were used because I had had three sections within 3.5 years and I needed the extra strength of the staples. I also had to have them for 3.5 weeks. I have no idea what they will do this time around.

I had glue the first time and staples the second. It's just what the surgeon prefers. I was nervous about staples, for some reason, but there was no difference in recovery and removal was painless.

I have internal stitches right now. Honestly, you can't even see where the incision was made! It's amazing! Although when I asked how it would be closed the Dr joked he was going to get his sons stapler - he is friends of the family so joking like this from him is normal!
Doctor preference. I had staples. My best friend had a baby 2wks before me and had the dissolvable stitches. Not that I have anything to compare it to but I didn't think the staples were that bad & it didn't even hurt when I had to get them taken out a week later. Went for an incision check today & I'm completely closed up lol

I had stitches, in fact got them removed today
all depends on the doc, all my friends who have had csections all had staples and were shocked to hear I had stitches
