have you guys ever heard of using raw goat's milk instead of formula? There is a lady at my work who has goats and offered it to my preemie, but i have never heard of this before! Any thoughts?

I know that in animals is is the ideal milk replacement for an early one or a bottle fed one. I would do a little research on it but goats milk has a lot of healt benefits. I might supplement my formula with it just to make sur emy baby was getting everything it needed.
We had goats when I was little specifically for this -- there were 5 of us kids relatively close in age, and in order for mom to keep up ... And we all turned out fine. Mostly. :-)
I'd talk to your pedi before doing it, though -- and check with the coworker to see if she does any processing of the milk, too. (We always strained but never pasteurized, if I remember correctly.)
i just heard of someone on my local board doing this... she used it as a base and added other stuff to it.
like everyone said, i'd do some research/talk to the pedi but i don't think its as rare as some may think. plus, its prolly a lot cheaper than the canned stuff, w/o the corn syrup
we were just discussing this the other night. my cousin was allergic to milk/soy. my uncle bought a goat to milk for him. ?he turned out a little weird, but i don't blame the goat....
Please talk to your pedi first.(and your pedi will probably need to speak with a pediatric dietician) I was a pediatric nurse for many years and we had a baby admitted once b/c he was _extremely_ anemic because he was only fed goat's milk. The kid had such pale, thin skin that it was almost transclucent. I'm pretty sure at the very least you would need to supplement with iron but I'm not sure if goat's milk has everything else a baby would need. After all, it's meant to provide all the nutritional needs to a baby goat.
My grandmother was on goat's milk from 3 months old (she couldn't tolerate her mother's milk). She was just fine, and even has a freakishly good immune system. I would def. talk to your pedi, though.
I know there's an article on the Dr. Sears website about goats milk. ?We are still breastfeeding but I am looking at alternatives to cow's milk once DS hits a year. ?
