Home-made wrap is awesome

If you've been thinking about using a wrap, do it.  I bought 5 yards of fabric from my local store ($30) and cut the width in two. I now have one wrap for me and one for my SIL (a nice brown fabric with little sage dots). I've used it at the grocery-store and walmart.

Also, if you pick certain holds you can wrap it on yourself before you leave the house and just slide the baby in when you get there instead of wrapping in the parking lot.

  • OOO I am so excited. I bought 6 yards last week. I am bringing it to my friend to sew the edges tmrw!!  What width did you do? My instructions say up to 35", which is what I was going to do. you should PIP your fabric, it sounds cute :)  Mine is pink/purple/white stripes with a sparkly silver thin stripe.

  • Cute!! Smile  What width is your wrap?

  • The fabric was 60 inches so I cut it in half so 30 inches (give or take as I didn't worry too much when cutting it)
  • And if your friend isn't done yet, I'd really recommend asking her to place a 'tag' (maybe a folded ribbon) at the approximate middle- I am going to add one because sometimes my guessing is 'off' enough I have to start over (annoying)

Love the fabric. Love the baby, ADOREABLE! Is this is no-sew ring sling ?

  • I've forgotten what kind of fabric I bought but I think it's a jersey- I bought something stretch with ends that curl and don't fray so I didn't have to hem.

It's not a no sew ring sling, it's a no sew wrap- like a moby wrap imitation.

Thanks, I was wondering what to put as a marker.  Was thinking a patch or something.  Riboon would be nicer.

  • so I made the maya wrap. super easy. only thing is I will make another one in a cotton fabric. The one I made is a bit too stretchy and I did not need it to be so long. Iittle one fit in it nicely after I tightened it. she actually fell asleep in a few minutes!  The length on the instructions is if you are going to make the pocket so If you do not want the pocket I would take off the extra after you fit it on. I am about 5'4" and I got the length in 2 1/2 yards. I am taking off about 12" off the length.

I am going to try a muslin fabric due to that will have less stretch to it.

I will take some pictures later.

With all the supplies it was about 13 dollars to make.

  • I'll post a pic of mine when I get it back. Hopefully it will be this week. It was on huge clearance. In all, will be $7. Its beautiful linen/muslin-ish material.
