I've had three D&C's and for all three I took the next day off of work, more for emotional recovery but for two of them I really did physically need the extra time. I don't want to keep burning through my sick time, and am wondering about recovery. If you've had an operative hysteroscopy (under general anesthesia), how did you feel the day after?
They think I have either a polyp or retained placental tissue, so hopefully its just this one little thing they can get out and I can move on with my life! Seriously... I miscarried in April! If only a healthy pregnancy could hang on this tight I would be all set!
I spend about 50% of my day sitting, and the other 50% running around a hospital.
Re: Will I be able to work the day after an operative hysteroscopy?
It's all about how you come out of GA, well, and how good of a job the anesthesiologist does (overkill or just right).
I personally took off the next 2 days to sleep (would have only had to take one, but almost no one is in my office on Fridays, so I just took the rest of the week).
And I opted out of GA, to avoid the tube down my throat (I'm a singer that to lost that in an unlikely accident would really suck). There's another option for GA, but it's not good asthmatics, which I also am. Instead I went with a spinal block and Versed. I was awake enough to work over email a bit the same night as the surgery, and I could have worked both of the next few days from bed from the computer, and I had zero pain and only took half of one pain killer while still at the hospital. But, it was because my issue wasn't as bad as it could have been, and I didn't have to have the balloon stent put in. And I could totally eat normally.
But, it took 3 days for the feeling of being stoned all over my body (if you can imagine that) to clear, till I felt totally normal again.
I had mine on a Friday, so I had the next two days to rest. I would have been fine to do my job the next day though, but I have a desk job that is pretty low key. My abdomen was pretty sore, but I could drive and do basic tasks.
