If you don't mind sharing, what do you pay your parents or IL's for watching LO? How does it compare to the average going rate for in-home daycare in your city. We are trying to find a reasonable amount to give to my mom for watching G about 36 hours a week and I'm just wondering what is average for this type of situation? Thanks!
Re: those with grandparents as daycare providers...
We pay $50/day - 3 days a week. We also provide all meals (we get a list of what she'd like for the week). And we give her a Starbucks card at the start of each week.
For daycare we would be paying $1250/month for the same amount of care.
Why dont you just ask GP how much they would like to be paid?
I know W's GP would never accept payment of anysort, so I will probably just give very generoud gift cards every couple months (a nice weekend away, fancy restaraunt, etc) However for us, it will only be 2-3 days a week.
Of course we will provide all food, diapers, supplies, etc.
I feel super cheap after reading previous posts. haha. My dad will have Xander when I go back to school in January and at first he wouldn't even hear of taking money from us for it but we decided we will supply all the supplies, keep food/drink in the house for my dad (since he decided he would rather come to our place) and depending what the hours are between $10-15 a day. That was the highest I was able to get with him, so I'm not going to fight him and risks him saying well nevermind then (not that I think he would but still) DH and I have talked about every few months we would get them a hotel room at the beach or at Disney for the night just to give them a night away together (my mom is a Disney fanatic and her parents live with them so a room wouldn't be silly to them) or a nice dinner.
My mom quit her job to watch DD so that is why we pay her. She refused at first but we told her we insisted - the first month we paid her in Starbucks gift cards. I want to make sure she wants to keep watching DD so I can avoid daycare for at least the first year, that would be my ideal situation.
I am paying for my parents gas to come up here and keep him. They live 45 minutes away. I also try to make sure I have food in the house and lunch meat. I plan on getting them a gift card to a nice restaurant once I get caught up on bills now that I am back to work.
They are keeping him four days a week. (Actually at the moment MIL is helping out some until she goes back to work.) He will go into daycare in Jan though.
That will cost 145 per week.
We are really lucky. We don't pay anything to either grandparent. My dad watches C for 3 days a week and H's mom watches him 1 day. Neither of them want or expect payment and they are very happy to do it just to have a relationship with their grandson. We do plan on getting them little gifts here and there (gcs for dinners, golf lessons, flowers for his mom, etc) randomly as our thank you. And my mom actually just decided she wants to throw her hat into the ring and she will be watching him one day a week most likely as well.
Daycare here is about $1500/month for one child.
