Upstate NY Babies

Just a vent

You might remember awhile ago me telling about my dad's GF's daughter having a baby, etc. Well, said baby just turned 3mos old and she put up tons of pics of her eating cereal on FB! I asked what she was eating and she said "we're starting cereal b/c she's teething and waking up too much at night so we want her to sleep". I asked how often she wakes up and she said every 4hrs! Now, the baby was about a month early so adjust she's really only about 2mos old. I felt bad, but emailed her a bunch of websites stating to wait until at least 4-6mos to start them on solids. I truly don't understand some people!

  • My college roommate did the same thing with her baby. I bit my tongue though because it would have gotten ugly. She also moved her LO to a toddler bed when he turned 1. I don't get it.

  • A girl I went to high school with posted on facebook about her baby eating cereal and liking it. Her baby is only 2 months old. I didn't say anything since I don't really talk to her. Then she posted on a mutual friends status to just feed her baby cereal she will sleep at night and that her doctor told her to. I don't know which doctor she goes to but I can't belive he told her to feed her 2 month old cereal.

  • A girl I went to high school posted about how excited she was to *finally* start her DD on juice when she turned 4 mos. old.  ugh. DS #1 needed to drink juice starting at around 7 months because of all the tests he had to have done due to his cancer.  I hated forcing him to learn to drink juice, but it was better than the alternative (forcing the ng down his nose to get the fluid in which we had to do a few times).  DS #2 still has never tasted juice and I plan to keep it that way.
  • Ugh - I just had a convo with my mom about this today! She asked if I was giving O rice cereal yet, and I said no, and explained baby-led weaning to her, and that I was going to try and wait til he was 6 months.

She said "well, I gave you solids at 2 1/2 months old" (Cringe)  and then accused me of making my LO go hungry, and then tried to use the "sleeping longer" argument for giving him solids this early.. When I shot her down on both accounts (BF gives 90% of calories for the first year, and also LO is already STTN), she then said I read too many books.

    Ugh - eye roll.
