Pregnant after IF

High bp :(

So I'm 19 weeks today and had my 2nd a/s today. My bp was 124/84... Better than the last time when I ran into my appt at 145/84. I got the lloonngg speech about how I'm at risk for pre-e and blah blah.. I'm doing all that I know to be doing. I'm eating right, I get a good amount of excersise everyday.. Idk what else to do! My BP was normal before I started my IVF. After that there was so much anxiety I had sky rocketing bp but it leveled out after we came over the big hump of baby not measuring big enough. Is it just the baby that does this to me? Or what? Is this bp kind of normal?

Re: High bp :(

  • 124/84 is perfectly normal! Im not sure why they were worries. I had mild pre-e then severe pre-e and my BP was constantly like 160s over 100 to 110. I wouldnt worry about your BP today =)

  • Whew! Ok good! Thank you ladies! I had a different doc than normal today and he was going on and on that I had hypertension prior to my pregnancy and blah blah.. Ok well when I weighed 50 pounds more, yes I did, but when I lost the weight to do my IVF it was normal! It's been worse but it's when they take right after I walk in the office from the smoldering heat and hike from the parking lot!

  • That level is very similar to mine too.  My drs always say it is normal when I ask for a classification.  Maybe since it was a new dr he was looking at your last bp too.  I would start asking them not to take it right away.  My last appt I was actually given that option when I responded "Oh boy" to the notification of taking my bp.  So I would not think it would be an unreasonable request.

  • That's totally normal!  And, it might be due to "White Coat Syndrome" too.

My BP is usually kinda high at the MFM, and they keep having the nerve to ask me if I'm nervous.

  • Your bp today was definitely fine! If you think you are suffering from office anxiety, you could get a cuff and begin taking it at home and logging it. That way, if it is high only at the office, but good at home you'll be able to show them. GL! Mine is always a little higher at the office than it is at home!

  • Mine was 135 something, and they said it's fine. I also take it at home though, and it's always much, much lower. So maybe there's the "white coat" trigger as well. I don't think you should be worried at this point.

  • I have mild high bp due to kidney disease. when I went to my last appointment my bp was 152/82 (I was nervous) and the doctor didn't say a word until I asked him. He said the pressure is good for the placenta at that level and they don't worry until it gets a lot higher. I'm already on BP meds and he didn't up them at all. This morning I was 140/76, which is pretty average for me. I think BP is so incredibly variable. Especially at the doctor. I'm always so nervous my bp will be high that I MAKE it high. and yours wasn't even high! I wouldn't stress. You're doing everything you can and they can give you safe meds if you need them :)
