Floride or non flouride toothpaste?

Hi ladies!  I am new to this board, my DD started preschool last week!

The town we live in does not have flouride in the water & our pedi prescribed flouride drops for my daughters (3 & 1.5). Should I be using flouride toothpaste also?  I don't want them to get too much and end up with white spots on their teeth.

Thanks!

Re: Floride or non flouride toothpaste?

  • We use fluoride since DS can spit. As long as you can teach her to spit I think fluoride can't hurt.   We have city water so no drops.

  • We started using fluoride paste around age 2, I think.  Just a tiny bit on the brush, and a rinse with a little paper cup of water once she learned to spit better.  Before that we used the kid paste without fluoride.  I would check with your doctor or dentist just to be sure since they get fluoride drops, too, which my DD did not.

  • We still use non-fluoride since DS still can't spit. We have fluoride in our water here. I'd check with your dentist.

  • Same as pp, our pedi dentist recommended fluoride toothpaste as soon as he was reliably spitting after brushing.

  • As long as your child spit and is not swallowing the toothpaste, I would go with the flouride kind.  You can also call your dentist and see what they think.
