Pregnant after IF

Question about stopping progesterone

I graduated today! I wasn't sure exactly when my last RE appt was, and when I asked the doc, he told me "Today"! Baby is actually starting to look like a baby on the u/s - I will miss getting them done weekly but NT scan is a week from Thurs so not that far away.

I was down to 1/2 cc a day of PIO, and now I'm to do 1/2 cc every other day for one week and then stop. Since I won't be with the RE anymore I guess I won't be getting my progesterone checked? How do I know I'll be ok without the PIO?

What week did you stop progesterone, and was your P4 monitored afterwards? I'm kind of nervous about this.

Re: Question about stopping progesterone

  • With my first pregnancy, I dropped to a half dose at 8 weeks, stopped completely at 9 weeks, with no monitoring.   and it was fine.   The placenta is more than capable of doing the job by now.

This pregnancy, I stayed on until 11 weeks, but that was because I was bleeding/had a SCH.   However, both the RE and OB admitted that the PIO didn't actually do anything (if I was going to miscarry, the PIO wouldn't help/not help at that point), it was more for peace of mind than anything else.

Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • I was on 1cc of PIO daily but was told to stop cold-trukey ( and did) once I hit 10 weeks. After that point, it wasn't checked b/c that's when the placenta should have already kicked in and started to make it.

  • I don't think it's common to measure P4 levels after the betas.  They just assume that your body will kick in when it's supposed to or in my case the placentas will.  I was on PIO until 15 wks for my FET, since I had been suppressed (didn't O), my ovaries weren't making any until later than a fresh cycle.

  • I stopped cold turkey at 11 weeks and everything was fine. My OB never checked (that I know of).

    Congrats on graduating!

  • I stopped cold turkey at 12w6d as instructed by RE and was fine.  I don't think we even checked a P4 again after my 2nd beta back when I was around 4 weeks.  At this point, the placenta has taken over making progesterone so you should be fine!!

  • First, congrats on graduating!! How exciting!!

My RE actually didn't check my P4 at all... and I stopped cold turkey at 9w/6d. At that point your body should be producing it on its own. I was super nervous too. It's just so crazy to be off of it. But I've obviously been fine since! :)
