2nd Trimester

my pregnant-lady breasts...

are driving me crazy. And I have a problem I haven't been able to find anything out about online, so maybe someone here can help me?

Pre-pregnancy my breasts were an A-34. Right after I got pregnant, they blossomed to a C-34. I know that's not big by any stretch, but it's way too big for me. My main problem seems to be my right breast, which is bigger than my left now by a bit. No matter what bra I wear (regular underwire, built-in-bra cami, softcup bra, maternity bra, maternity sports bra) it seems to be undersupported and I end up getting a funny feeling (sort of like my circulation is cut off in just one spot) right where the bottom of the bra/elastic sits on the inner side of my right breast. It gets worse and worse as the day progresses and drives me crazy. I woke up because of it twice last night. I feel like my breasts are sitting way lower than they should, but I don't know if that's just because my belly is more substantial than it was or what. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I'm not used to having big breasts and have no idea how to deal with them! Any help at all would be so appreciated.

Re: my pregnant-lady breasts...

  • Lol you sound like me. I started at a 34-A with my first and went to a 36-C. It was way too much boobage in such a little amount of time. It was really uncomfortable to adjust with the breast tenderness and growth, but I found that a push up bra seemed to help lift enough so that I couldn't tell they were weighing me down (if that makes any sense at all).

  • You need to have a fitting done if not already. Victoria secret does fitting for free and so does Macy's or any lingerie store will do. have them do a fitting and they will suggest a bra that will help support your ladies, I had to do it because i was getting no where on my own.

  • I dont really have any suggestions because Im in the same boat. Ive always been a small b, and then a C post pregnancy due to milk supply coming in...but couldnt breastfeed. I am only 4' 11" and shrinking...

I went to try on bras recently and I'm too big for a C!!! I didnt want to sound stupid and ask the lady to help me find something that would support my breasts so I just got a D cup sports bra with wide straps. Dh insists I go get a real bra because the one I grabbed in a hurry was kinda granny-ish! LOL.

Bra shopping this weekend, and Dh says its worse than car shopping!

Good luck and if you find any bras you love, please let us know!!

  • Here's some tips from somebody who had a breast reduction from 34I/J to 34C/D and is now at 34DD.

Sorry to say, but for us big-boobed ladies, there's no such thing as being able to just go out and buy a bra in our size and have it fit comfortably.  For one thing, the tape measurement never seems to feel accurate.

When you put on your bra, check to make sure that the base fully meets the base of your boobs.  If it doesn't fully cover the bottom swell with every tiny little millimeter of cloth touching below the swell of the boob, you're in the wrong size for that manufacturer.  If the bra cuts across the top or side of your boob, you're also in the wrong size for that manufacturer.  In all of those cases, the bra is too small for you and you should try on both 36Cs and 34Ds.

For support, check to make sure that your shoulder straps are tightened to the appropriate spot and that they're not loosening themselves throughout the day.  A wide-shouldered bra tends to be far more comfortable than thin straps.

Additionally, for support, make sure that the cup construction provides give, but also provides support in the right way.  As ugly as they are, nothing beats a full-coverage bra for comfort and support.  Underwire bras are second-best, but make sure the wire itself is well padded and that you're in the right cup size.  I've had more than my share of irritation from the edge of a wire poking into a boob.  Something barely noticeable in the fitting room = torture by the end of the day.

You might also have luck with expandable bra.  I have a few that I got in size 34C/D.  They're sports-bra style, which isn't great for separation, but lift ability is awesome. You might find that these types of bras better support both boobs despite their difference in size (which is very common.)  If all else fails, buy a bra that fits the bigger boob.  You can always add a soft-cup pad to the smaller boob to better fit to the bra.

  • PS - a lot of big-boobied women do well with layering a shelf-bra cami over a regular bra.  You'd be amazed at how much lift you can get by wearing the two together.
  • I'm right there with you, I went from A34 to C34 but I I have one boob larger than the other, so no bra ever really fits, cup wise. I'm wearing a bra now that has removable pads, and I move both pads to the smaller size. My larger boob is a little bit too big for this cup size, too. I feel like I can't win... Sad

They're so sore and in-the-way I have to sleep with a bra on. I hate it. I love being pregnant, sometimes I just want my old body back!

As a 32G pre-pregnancy, I totally agree with this; it works wonders.

I also strongly recommend going into a real lingerie store and getting a professional fitting, but I do recommend AGAINST Victoria's Secret. They have a tendency of putting people in bras that simply do not fit, IMX. Like I said, I was a 32G pre-pregnancy, and they kept trying to put me in 36DDs... and as I mentioned in another post on this subject, a friend of mine whose real size is 32D, they put in 36B.

The majority of the support you get for a bra should be from the band, NOT the straps... so if the band's too big, you won't get any support (and might even fall out the bottom!).

  • I was a 34 C prepregnancy and in the first month I went from a 34 C to a 36 F!! Oh.My.God! I feel them sitting on my belly too and makes me short of breath at times. I may try the double cami/ bra thing PP suggested. Good Luck! This is beyond big sexy and is now more like National Geographic big :-(

  • I know your pain. With my first pregnancy I went from a 36 C to a 38 DDD. That is a HUGE jump. A very uncomfortable one at that. I would suggest getting a fitting done . And if worried about some lift get a bra with a little bit of under padding in it.  I used to work in bra fittings and one thing that I found is that when you are uncomfortable, most of the time you're not wearing the right size bra. Don't go up in the band size unless you feel it's necessary. Go up in the cup size. Unfortunately all women do have one breast bigger than the other. This becomes worse during pregnancy. so you need to find a bra that fits better to your bigger breast and one with thicker straps to give you support. That is where you get your support from, is the straps. Not the cups (unless they are strappless with a wider band). Try that and see if it works for you.  Good luck!
