Re: how long did it take

  • DS:  3 months

    Current pregnancy:  first try

Are you charting?  Using OPKs?  We used OPKs the 2nd time so we could time things perfectly.

  • Each time we tried, it happened right away, but keeping it that way was our problem.

So to get to where we are today I'd say about a year and 7 months.

  • So sorry for your struggles; you are definitely not alone.

The previous poster had some good questions--which tools are you using to help you optimize your trying? You might already be using all of them, but perhaps not?

We used the ClearBlue Fertility Monitor AND the digital ovulation predictor kits so that we were doubly sure not to miss ovulation.  This is especially helpful if you, like me, don't seem to ovulate on the same day each month.

We also were successful after we read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" which I found immensely helpful in trusting and understanding my own body, particularly the cervical mucus and temperature charting.

Of course, if you are already doing all of these things, it may not be a bad idea to consult your doctor. If nothing else, it could put you more at ease.  Our doctor told us if it took more than 6 months than we could contact her, so your doc might be willing to bring you in for some basic tests at this point.

But, do know that lots of people can take a year+ and be perfectly, perfectly fertile and healthy.  Sending you best wishes that you'll be on this board soon!

  • We are having a honeymoon baby... we were never "together" previous to our marriage either, so we are more fertile than we thought... 2 of my SIL's though struggled to get pregnant w/ their first children.  But they *DID* get pregnant.  I sure hope you don't have to wait much longer.  I'm so sorry it's been tough.

This is such an adorable story - congrats to you!  We test-drove for years before buying, but I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who chose your route.

  • The first time we tried.  From a very young age I always had a bad feeling about ttc and getting pg. I felt like it was going to be very difficult for me.  I never had a reason to feel that way, I just did.  So it was a bit of shock to see the BFP that first month.  In some ways I feel guilty b/c I have friends who have been trying for over 5 years and still can't get pg.  Sad

  • I figured it would take a while.  I have always had an irregular cycle and I have PCOS.  It took three months, but I haven't been to the OBGYN yet.  I'm hopeful, but I know things can happen.
  • We got our BFP on cycle #2, but I was charting for 3 cycles before that to learn about my body.

  • 5 cycles of very activly trying, charting, and using OPKs. It is frustrating when you are doing everything right and it seems like eveyone else gets pregnant without trying. Try to stay positve and best of luck!!!

  • 1st cycle trying- Ended in miscarriage/chemical pregnancy at 4 weeks 5 days

6th cycle trying- Ended up being an ectopic pregnancy

12th cycle trying- This current pregnancy. FX things continue going well!

It was very frustrating to see the cycles go by after "getting lucky" and conceiving our first try. It took us one full year to get to where we are today.

  • The first cycle of officially trying (3 weeks after our wedding) but we had thrown caution to the wind the month before...I was charting and using opk's and I was still surprised it happened so quickly.

  • It took my husband and I 2 years & 3 months of not using protection before we got PG again after an miscarriage at 10 weeks in 2009! We have went threw using 3 rounds of clomid, being told I could have PCOS, & being told I'm to over weight to get pg! So we finally gave up and not even a month later I went in for a sinus problem & came out with books and papers on how to prepare for baby! I was in complete shock when my doctor came into the room & said congrats your pg! Our first appointment is Sep 29th!

So keep your chin up & soon it will happen for you also :) GL!!

Thoughts & Prayers are with you!

  • With my daughter, we tried 6 months, had a miscarriages, then had to try another 6 months.

This time, it took 6 months :)

And I have perfectly normal cycles and ovulate like clockwork. Depending on your age, you may want to ask your doctor. But you probably just need to keep at it :)

  • Try not to worry about your fertility yet.  It can take a perfectly healthy couple up to a year to conceive.  I would recommend buying a basal body thermometer and charting using Fertility Friend.  That way you can see when you're ovulating and if you're timing sex right.

  • This is my first pregnancy and it took pretty much exactly a year. Went off BC in July 2010 and conceived in July 2011. I have been taking Metformin and was not having regular periods (or any at all) but I guess you can still ovulate w/ no period!

Exactly the same.  The third month for the first go round, we did 12 days in row surroundring suspected ovulation(the first two months, I think we did 6 days)....we did the same thing the first month this time around.

  • Very long story short:

--6 years with my ex, to no avail. Only one pregnancy and that ended in miscarriage.

--Married my awesome current husband and got pregnant after 3 months with Maddie.

--Breastfed and didn't get pregnant because of it until she started to wean at 11 months.

OP- don't lose heart. Definitely chart and do your part... but also don't be afraid to get checked out if you want to.

  • Right away - no way we would have had such quick success wihtout reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and using the fertility friend website. It's amazing how our bodies work, and how little we are taught about it in school/sex ed.

    Very very highly recommend!!!!!
