I'm having trouble getting over our last obstacle of potty training. Ds#1 will poop in the potty no problem - tells us when he has to go, does his business, no playing around. Every day, no issues. Pee is our problem - he will tell us every once in a while that he has to go, but isn't consistent. There are times his diaper will be 10lbs full of pee and he'll insist that he's dry and doesn't need his diaper changed. Then there are times he's barely wet and insists on getting changed.
We've tried the "lets go sit on the potty" every 30 minutes, we've tried using pull-ups and bribery (Hershey kisses, pennies for his bank), we've tried letting him sit in his uncomfortable wet diaper for a bit (some days this doesn't bother him and I change him only because I think it's gross!). My dh suggests we go the naked route and let him experience the shame of peeing on the ground (which is apparently what his mother did to him and it worked in one day), but I don't know that I'm comfortable with that tactic (and to be honest, I think ds will think it's hilarious to pee on the carpet).
Any tricks or tips for getting over this hump?
TIA
Re: Our last obstacle of training - need advice
Put him in underpants. Regular ones not training.
This. Naked does work very well though. Have him help clean up his mess...he won't think that's very funny. Explain to him that if he goes in the potty, he won't have a mess to help clean up. This worked great with my LO.
It's not a shame thing, and it's not punishment. It's teaching. You can't wear diapers forever.
