I had a sad realization today as I was tearing though my closet... pretty much nothing fits anymore! At least not comfortably. So I hopped online and ended up spending $300 that I don't have so I could have something to wear for the next 6 months. It was the first time ever that I shopped begrudgingly! I kept going over my shopping cart trying to cut things out and only getting necessities but I needed it all because nothing fits anymore!! I tried at least to buy things that I hopefully I'll be able to wear later and it will just be comfortably roomy. Such a bummer!
Re: Do I Really Basically Need a New Wordrobe?!?!
Welcome to the world, Baby W: born on 3/8/12 @ 3:49pm - 8lb 11 oz, 22 in.
I highly doubt you had to buy 300$ worth of mat stuff.
So far I've spent like MAYBE 100 and I got some designer mat jeans off ebay and some cute tops that are flowy from ON, not all of it will last through the end. But I figure I'll probably want to buy some little things when its closer anyway.
Do you have any close friends/family with Maternity clothes? I have 3 tubs of stuff from my sister, sister-in-law, and a good friend. It is so great to have some options without spending tons. I know I'll have to get some of my own, but it has been great to have these "hand me downs" since they are barely used!
$450 was dropped on clothes for me. =( It hurt, but it needed to be done. The belly band wasn't cutting it anymore since my thighs are now huge. Also, I needed at least 5 different outfits for work. I'm still supplementing in tunics and dresses, but it was getting really frustrating wearing the same four things to work for the past three weeks.
The maternity clothes are super comfy though, so it will be worth it to be in clothes that feel good again!

I just spent $300 and all I got was 1 dress, 3 undershirts, a pair of jeans, and a pair of capri's Maternity is expensive!!
I refuse to buy Old Navy, it all looks crappy on me and is cheaply made. Not really a fan of Target either. I guess I'm a maternity snob.
I went and bought some billowy dresses a few weeks ago and NOW they're starting to get a bit snug and showing my bump some more. My aunt has a bunch of baby stuff for me and i think some maternity clothes too but she lives 2 hours away so she's not that easy to get to with me working 6 days a week.
Honestly going to a thrift store or something is one of the best ideas I've discovered they have some pretty good clothes for cheap.
Yup! All of this! I also had to get new bras. Hello 38Es.

I have been fussing about the maternity clothes but have a feeling that I will be spending 300 or more. I have looked at Old Navy and some places online and I just can't wear a lot of that cheap fabric. My skin will break out after about an hour or two. I have recently taken to walking into the maternity section, crying and walking out. I still have no maternity clothes. My husband said he would go with me on Friday. Maybe I need a little moral support.
I am going to need new dress pants, some dress shirts, a suit coat, maybe a skirt or dress or two and a winter coat. That does not even include anything that I want to wear when I am not working. (Which is mostly pajamas so that should be OK.)
Sears of all places had great maternity pants on sale, I bought a few pairs of them. I spent more than I should have on stuff this past weekend but I got a bunch of staple pieces that should last me for a while and just be big and cozy later.
I'm currently wearing a pair of pre-preg pants that zipped up and buttoned without a problem, but then I sat down at my desk and was very uncomfortable. I'm unbuttoned, unzipped and very grateful for the long tank top and draped sweater I also picked out this morning. Hopefully no one notices and I can make it thru the day without a wardrobe malfunction.
Craigslist and eBay are great resources for stuff like this. Except bras. Can't buy those used lol
I think a lot of it depends on your a) pickiness and b) work situation. I am not picky and worked at a casual office (finance but all over the phone so folks wore shorts, t-shirts, sweat-shirts, etc). I did not spend $300 last pregnancy but I am not really into clothes in the first place. But I have had friends who are not picky but need to wear professional clothes and had to spend money on suits and stuff and I had friends who didn't have as much work restraint but wanted really cute jeans so spent a lot of money.
Do you have to spend $300 - nope. You definitely could have spent less via Target, Kohls, OldNavy, JCP, etc. But maybe it is worth it for you. It wouldn't be for me but I spend my money on other things that probably don't seem worth it to everyone.
