I am planning to attend my first consignment sale today and wanted to know what might be considered reasonable prices for some big ticket items. We are looking at mostly stuff like a pack-n-play, the rock and sleep sleeper, an activitiy mat and a swing. We actually have some baby showers coming up, but were thinking that it might be better to go ahead and purchase these items if they are a good price. Anyway, are these reasonable prices to pay for the above items?
Pack n play= $50-100
Rock and sleep sleeper= $25-35
Activitiy mat=$20
Swing= $50-100
Feel free to let me know if you think I should be able to get these items cheaper!
Re: Consignment prices...
A brand new PNP is about $100. No way would I pay even $50 for one used because you can buy one new without all the bells and whistles for not much more than that especially if you find a sale.
Same for the swing.
And maybe I'd pay $20-25 for an activity mat or RNP but I doubt it.
This is coming from someone who is about to sell all of these things for less that what you just posted at a sale.
Some of the pros can will probably chime in but I think the rule of thumb when pricing consignment stuff is like 25% of what you paid.
You should easily be able to find lower prices than what you listed IF you find the items but from what I understand the big items go quickly.
I think of it as being about 1/3rd of original, maybe 1/2 if it's totally new. Obviously there's variability too.
Where do you live? You might be able to hook up with someone here who is ready to sell those items. Like ECU, I'm about to pass along A LOT of baby stuff and it'd be so nice to sell to ladies here. Maybe we need to go back to our Tuesday trading posts...and indeed today is Tuesday!

As for the prices:
Pack n play= $50-100 I sold my 9 year old used one at Kids Everywhere for $30 and bought a fancy used one with a changing table at a consignment store for $70.
Rock and sleep sleeper= $25-35 I paid $43 new on Amazon, wouldn't pay more than $25 uses
Activitiy mat=$20 $15 used for a really good one that has lights and sounds would be fair.
Swing= $50-100 You can get a new one for $100 from Wal-Mart or Amazon.I got a My Little Lamb one on CL for $60, I sold my FP Rainforest one for $50. Would not pay more than $60 for the really nice papasan ones like the little lamb type. FYI-Those go REALLY fast at consignment sales, you would be better off on CL if you don't get it new.
