C-sections

if I already have a vertical scar...

I know most c-sections are done with a horizontal "bikini" scar.

But if I already have a vertical midline scar from intestinal surgery (from above bellybutton down to public bone), can the doctor re-open that scar and use it for the c-section instead of making a new incision?

in addition to the midline scar, I also have horizontal scars higher up.... I really don't need any more!

  • I don't think so. They like to make a fresh incision. When I had my repeat c/s, they removed my old scar and made a new cut.

How do they remove the old scar? I am confused?

  • I also have a vertical incision from previous bowel surgery.  I have a horizontal c-section scar.  The c-section scar is so much lower that you don't even notice it, it is not like they intersect in any way.  The preferred method for c-section is currently a low horizontal incision.  According to my OB a vertical approach has a higher risk of uterine problems in subsequent pregnancies.
