Two Under 2

So do you buy a new crib...or PNP it?

I read the post below about not transitioning your older child out of the crib until well after 2.  So where is your younger baby?  In their own crib, or in a PNP?

ETA: I now see the 2u2 sharing a room thread below.  Sorry.

  • We went with 2 cribs and it worked out great.  In fact I just moved my oldest (2 yrs 10 mo.) out of his crib a few weeks ago.   Ours share a room and to be honest it wasn't nearly as bad as I though it would be.  They now look for each other in the room so it's cute.

Oh wow, almost 3 years old!  So if we were to use the PNP, our new LO could possibly be stuck in it for a year.

Good to know.  Thank you!  In about 20 weeks I will start watching the Target and BRU sales!

  • 17 months apart here and a 2nd crib is some of the best $$ we've ever spent.

Got a cheap one and resold it getting about half of the $$ back.

Oldest stayed in a crib until about 28 months and youngest until about 32 months.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • While DS #2 will be in a PNP in our room for a while, it won't be more than a couple of months (maybe less since I'm going back to work at 6/7 weeks this time). There is no way that we will be ready to move DS to a regular bed at that point, so we got another convertible crib (we also redid what used to be our guest room into his room and left his original baby room intact). We know the decision was the right one for us.

  • With Irish twins, there was no way we weren't getting another crib. Ours are from Ikea. $120 each. They've held up great.
  • we went with a new crib - our two will be about 19.5 months apart. don't want to mess with DS's 7pm - 7am sleep schedule.

  • DS will be 22 months when DD gets here (he's 20 mths now). We put the toddler bed in his room about 3 weeks ago just to get him use to it, see what he thought. He likes to get up on it, sit on it, sit against the headboard, but that only lasts for about 2 minutes. I decided, there's no rush to get him out of a crib. He sleeps really well at night (10-12 hours) and moves around a great deal. I don't want to mess with his sleeping along with him getting use to his new sister. We are leaving the toddler bed in his room to continue to get use to and then try naps in down the road. I'm fortunate that a friend has offered to borrow me her crib that she's no longer using. I'm taking her up on that offer to put my mind at ease and so I can continue to get DD's room ready for her arrival.
  • New crib.  We snagged the same crib that DS#1 has (they share a room) for less than $200.  It was a floor model, on clearance, during the trade in event.  My older son will outgrow his crib before I am ready to move him to a bed :(

  • 2 cribs for us...we have space for them to have separate rooms as well. We used the PNP in our bedroom for the first 2 months.

  • We are so fortunate in that my mom bought all of the furniture for DD's nursery and DS's as well so we have two cribs, two tall dressers and two long dressers/changing tables.  DD is still in her crib but we are going to be transitioning her to a full bed (using her convertible crib) and giving her crib mattress to DS (who is still in the pnp in our room).  We are intending to use their furniture well into their teen years so to us and my mom it was worth the initial upfront investment and I like not having to worry about getting rid of baby furniture and getting big kid stuff.

  • We have two cribs.

My kids were 16 months apart and I had no desire to push a "big girl bed" with my DD when I knew that I would need her safe and confined more than ever.  The last thing I needed with a brand new baby was a toddler roaming the halls at night.. kwim?

My DD (26 months now) still LOVES her crib.  It is her safe space and she has never tried to climb out.  She is happy there.  We will eventually transition to a bed but I'm in absolutely no hurry.
