EBF baby all the sudden spitting up often - thoughts?

Walker is suddenly spitting up after most of his meals. Not clear whole meal spit up, but small sort of thick spit up 30 or so minutes after. I think it's been going on for about 2 weeks now. I am totally lost on why...I haven't changed my diet at all. He doesn't have a fever but does seem a bit fussy. I've guessed teething because I can feel the teeth under the gums and he's drooling up a storm and chewing on everything. My first DS got teeth right at 5 months so maybe this one is a bit of an early teether too. But, I just don't know. Any ideas of what else could make him spit up often at this point? Can babies get reflux this late?

Sorry I don't post much anymore. I lurk a lot but typing while taking care of 2 under 2 is sooo hard...I am always holding one of them!

  • I don't know the answer, but I did see a couple similar posts on 3-6 months.  It sounds like a few people have seen increases in spit up and thought it might be related to teething.  I'm curious to see your responses.

  • When DS turned 3 mo. he started to spit up. A. Lot. Both, the very liquid right after and the curdle milk long after a feed (like the one you're describing) his pedi said, babies spit up a lot, FFed or BFed. That as long as he was still a happy baby--his def, of this was; does he cry before or after he spits, or is he still smiling even after spitting up, DS's still a happy baby (the spit up has not gone away), and as long as his weigh is fine (his is more than fine!) no need to worry. Just burp him constantly and have plenty of burp cloths handy! HTH.
  • M did this too, starting at 2 months. She has a milk protein allergy. I can't eat any products containing milk, whey, or soy. Sucks.

  • Is he chewing on his fingers? I think DS is also teething and has started spitting up more as well. He tries to get as much of his hand in his mouth as he can and I think ends up stimulating the gag reflex- maybe why he doesn't spit up right after meals but 15-30 minutes after when he's been gnawing on his hands for awhile. He's been fussier lately too probably related to teething, so he may be nursing more when not really hungry and spitting up excess milk he doesn't need.
