Raleigh Moms: ObGyn advice...

Moms in the Raleigh, NC area, I have a question... I just found out I am pregnant with my second baby so I need to find an ObGyn in the Raleigh area to schedule my first appt (we had our first son in Greenville).  Any advice on which practice you think is the best?  There are so many practices in this area and it's hard to just pick one based on a Google search haha!  Also, which hospital did you all deliver at?  I'm trying to decide between Wake Med Cary or Rex and I've heard good things about both so I just wanted your opinions!  Thanks so much!

  • Congrats and good luck with making your decision!  I go to Atrium OB/GYn right across from Rex Hospital and have been nothing but happy there. THere are a few other girls on this board that also go there. Atrium Delivers at Rex which was a great hopsital in my opinion and i dont really have any complaints about my practice or the hopsital. I'm sure other ladies will chime in with where they go too.

  • I went to Mid-Carolina ObGyn and really liked them and that there were a lot of female doctors.  The deliver at Rex and I loved Rex!  congrats on #2!!
  • I'm an Atrium mom too! And love them.  They are so patient...I believe a lot of other doctors would have wheeled me in for a C-section instead of letting me try and letting my little one work it out.  So thankful for them.  I love Rex but I think WakeMed Cary is great too!

  • I go to Blue Ridge OB/Gyn and have been happy with it.  I also delivered my girls and will deliver this one at Rex.  I have no compliants about Rext.

  • I'm in love with Physicians for Women in Cary and will be delivering at Wake Med Cary.

I could talk about Physicians for Women all day long.  They're excellent.

  • I go to Wilkerson Ob/Gyn.  It's one of the oldest practices in Raleigh and they are fabulous.  They are incredible!  I am partial to a female drs. and this practice only has one male so that was also a factor when I chose them.  They are located right next to the Birth Center at Rex which was also a big reason I chose them.  I am a Rex employee so I must say that I am a little impartial!  I love the folks in the Birth Center - everyone from the security guard at the desk, to the labor and delivery nurses that I have gotten to know.  They really do a great job.  Good luck with your decision!

  • Associates in Women's Healthcare - Falls/Spring Forest.  I love all 5 OBs (all female), and their office runs so smoothly - I've never had to wait long like I did at a previous OB (Blue Ridge OB/GYN office off Falls).  They deliver at Rex, and I liked Rex a lot as well.

I also just talked to an acquaintance who delivered at Wake Med and was annoyed that there was a separate line item for room and board for the baby (who roomed-in and was BF'ed) in addition to the mom room and board.

Rex doesn't have tubs and, in 2009, didn't have wireless monitors (I think one of the Wake Meds did).  However, they had no problem monitoring me while they administered the antibiotics for my Group B strep, then disconnecting for me to labor on a ball.

  • I have used Blue Ridge for 5 years now and never had an issue. I have seen all the doctors and Dr. Gaines delivered DD and Dr. Anderson delivered DS (both c/s) at Rex. I was very happy with the practice and with Rex. Rex has nice rooms, wireless for computers, in room DVD/Flat Screen TV's, etc.

  • Atrium and Rex Hospital are who we are with as well.  They are a great choice.  I've heard great things about WakeMed Cary and wanted to deliver there bc I get better benefits there, but it wasn't worth the switch in doctors to me.

  • I work at Rex and both my son and daughter were born at the Rex Women's Center. All of the nurses and my physicians from Mid-Carolina (located right there on the Rex campus!) were wonderful, which made for very positive experiences. You should take a tour of Rex, that might help you with your decision! Call Michelle (919) 784-1992 to schedule a time that is convenient for you.
