nbr: does safeway carry organic chicken breasts?

since we are now eating all organic fruits/veggies/dairy - the next thing i would like to switch to is organic poultry. however, the cost at whole foods and lunardis is INSANE!

i dont ever shop at safeway but am thinking that might be a more affordable option. does anyone know if they happen to carry organic chicken breasts - and if so, how much they are? the husband just typically buys in bulk at costco and it is sooooo much cheaper. why on earth does organic have to cost so much money!!!

  • I'm sure some Safeways do, but the smaller ones might not.  Costco sells organic chicken breasts in multipacks near the butcher area.  It's more expensive than regular but cheaper than TJ's, whole foods or Safeway I think.

  • thank you so much! why didnt i think of that? =) i will def check it out the next time we are there!
  • check their freezer section, too. at whole foods.

also you can buy a whole chicken and have the butcher piece it for you and then have wings one night and breasts another (and use the torso/spine for stock.)

every now and then WF has $5 chicken sales

  • Sprouts if you have one has great prices.

Ditto on costco and whole foods sales.

Also I don't know if Im wrong but Ive noticed with organic things whole foods tends to have better prices then safeway.

  • Also I think I'm going to join a csa for poultry it's called soul food from vacaville.. they have pretty good prices.
  • Ditto on Costco - they sell both fresh and frozen organic chicken breasts

they do. because they buy more rather than as a "specialty" item. their 365 brand is the cheapest milk i've found.

  • Costco does carry organic chicken breast packs but in my experience they're not much cheaper than WF if at all (~$22 for 3 packs of 2 breasts each, whereas WF is $6-$8/lb depending on whether it's on sale). Nobody beats WF prices on organic whole chickens though, they're even cheaper than TJs.
