2nd Trimester

Having a tough time laying on my side :(

About a month ago I started getting a very achy-sore feeling on my left side when I tried to go to sleep. It's now starting on my right side!! I've run out of positions to sleep!! I tried taking a couple of Tylenol tonight and it didn't help at all. Anyone else already having a tough time getting comfortable at night??

I'm going to attempt to sleep on the couch now. Wish me luck!

Re: Having a tough time laying on my side :(

  • I've been using a body pillow, but I still have to lay on my side with it. I've always been a back and stomach sleeper so this is torture for me!! I just can't get used to it. My leg goes numb, I don't know what to do with my arms, my shoulders are not happy either. I wish I could sleep on my back, but he's laying on a nerve the causes severe pain down my right leg. Plus - I hear it's not the best position to sleep in at this point. Sigh. I just want to sleep. I have to get up at 5:00 for work :(

  • I am having a tough time too. The body pillow doesn't seem to help either. I plan to ask my Dr. about it on Wed when I see her because this no-sleep thing isn't working for me.

  • have you tried a different pillow under your head - like a thicker one than what you'd lay on your stomach with? or putting one between your knees?

sorry you're so uncomfy. I can relate, and it blows not being able to sleep.

  • While it's always best to err on the side of caution, I think it's important to trust your natural instincts, too. I read somewhere on here that some women have no risks for sleeping on their back, until later on in pregnancy, because it has to do with a specific nerve and in some cases, that nerve isn't squished/irritated (depending on body type or something, I guess).

I find myself laying at an angle most of the time, not quite on side, not quite on back. I heard that's okay, too.

Sleeping on my back is my favorite position, I do miss it...haha

  • I'm the same way. I have found if I prop a pillow behind my back, put one between my calves, and 2 on the side where my belly is that I can get more comfortable. DH is also having to deal with me laying on him/burrowing into him when I sleep. I have more room when I'm towards the middle of the bed and I don't have to worry about rolling out. When I'm too close to the edge I stiffen up and it makes it more painful.
  • Thanks for your feedback ladies!! I'm so glad it's not just me. I'm amazed at the number of pillows we are able to fit in our bed these days!!! Also glad I'm not the only one who misses sleeping on my back or tummy. Oh the joys of pregnancy :)
