2nd Trimester

2+Moms...Surprise for first, find out for second?

When we were pregnant with our first we decided not to find out the sex. I was convinced it was a boy the whole time and it turned out to be a boy. Now, for our second we're not sure what to do. We can find out this Friday. I think we both want to know but feel like we should we wait. Anyone surprised for the first and find out with the second? Would you change anything or do it differently? Thanks!

Re: 2+Moms...Surprise for first, find out for second?

  •  We didn't find out for our 1st pregnancy but found out for this one. For #2, we tried for a year to get pregnant and experienced 2 losses. I just felt that I needed to know this go round!

I wouldn't change not knowing this go round. However, if we have #3 I think I'd choose not to find out again. It was very exciting!

  • We didn't find out for our first pregnancy (had a DS), then found out for our 2nd (had a DD). This time around we decided to not find out again. I loved NOT knowing with DS and I loved knowing for DD. This time around I decided a surprise would be fun again.

  • I found out with the first and will with the second, but a lot of my friends who didn't find out with their first are finding out with the second.  Some do it because they just want to have a different experience, some do it to prepare their older child, some do it to know if they should hold onto all the clothing they have been storing away.

I actually find it sort of fascinating.  I really thought people would keep to the same camp, but people are funny that way. :)

  • We found out for our first and we just had our ultrasound yesterday for this baby. We decided to find out, but we wanted family to be with us when we did. So, we had the technicion put a picture that indicated the gender in an envelope and then we opened it after dinner. It was really fun :)
  • We are waiting for the surprise this time around again.  My DH wanted to find out in case we had a girl, then we can buy clothes but I didn't want to.  It was such a neat experience finding out in the delivery room that I wanted the same thing this time.  I have plenty of neutral clothes to last for a while plus my landlord is giving me all her girl clothes just in case.

This won't be our last child so I don't mind hanging on to some stuff for the next one; plus we are the first on both sides of the family to have kids so I'm sure there will be a girl somewhere even if I don't have one.

  • I made a deal with DH that we would be team green for #1 and find out for the rest so we found out and it was very exciting. I am glad we did. I really wanted a DD and it was hard for me to even wait to find out at 20 weeks.

  • We found out with our first and were surprised with our second.  We were originally going team green on this one but our older son is trying to convince us otherwise.  His logic... "Well mommy, I need to know how to act around the baby. If it is a boy I can act really hyper and wild because that is how boys are, but if it is a girl, I will have to be really calm and relaxed. I NEED to know."

  • We didn't find out for 1 and 2, but will this time. I'm so glad I got 2 surprises and they were one of each. This time, we just decided to try something different.

  • We have been surprised with all three. I think I would feel like I spoiled the surprise if I found out. I have a lot of friends that found out with #2 and are going back to the surprise with #3. Either way will be fun for you though! good luck!

  • I think it's not a bad idea to find out to prepare your first child, especially if he/she is 3+ years old.

We found out the sex for our first, and now I'm starting to want to become team green for this one.  My husband wants to find out, and our families are very interested, but I think it'll a different experience to wait until the baby is born.

I just don't want some people to ruin my surprise though.  Like my doctor or nurses...they could slip and say "she" or "he"...

  • I have been going back and forth with my husband on this issue since we found out I am pregnant. We already have 3 kids and found out with all of them but because I know this will be our last, I though it would be fun to wait and be surprised. At first my hubby kept saying no that he wanted to know so we could prepare since we have no baby stuff left and were not planning on getting pregnant. But the other day he called my bluff and said that if I wanted to wait, we would. So now its left up to me and Im affraid when asked by the ultrasound tech if I want to know the sex I wont be able to resist saying no.
