Nanny contract

Did you have your nanny sign a contract? If yes, what was on it? My nanny just started today and I have no idea if we need a contract or not.  Thanks ladies.

Re: Nanny contract

  • I don't have a nanny or a contract, but I would think its a good idea. I would cover:

Length of the contract (1 year?)

    Rate of pay

    days/times she'll be working

Days off/ vacation time/ sick days

duties (driving the child places, baths, dishes, etc.)

I'm sure there are other things but I can't think of any. Did you google?

  • Oh my goodness, yes, you need one!  It should cover:

Vacation days, sick days, emergencies.  What activities she will be expected to do, the safety of her car or her driving yours and insurance matters.  How much she will get paid, overtime, that you can fire her on demand for cause and how much notice you'll give her if you or she decides to leave.  It should cover whether she can watch tv during naps, or talk on her cell phone/text while with LO, and any and all things that you could possibly think of!  Including snow days, flooding, etc.  I'm trying to think of anything else that we put in ours or that I wish we'd put in ours.  Oh, Discipline too if you think that would be applicable.

I'm surprised you got one to start w/o a contract.

  • Yes you need one!  It forces you to discuss a lot of issues.  Google nanny contracts and you'll find samples.
