Cervical cerclage?

Just curious if any of you have had one in the past, or have to have one for this pregnancy?  I had precancerous cells on my cervix removed via cervical cone in 2007, thus leaving me with an incompetent cervix.  When I went for my first OB visit my doctor informed me that he wanted to do one when I am 14 weeks so I won't dilate and go into labor prematurely.  Has anyone had one? I'm pretty nervous about it, probably because I don't really know what to expect.  TIA!

Re: Cervical cerclage?

  • My friend had one, and she is 40 weeks today, she went into preterm labor in her 3rd tri and lost the baby,  And now has had a very healthy pregnancy.

  • I had one for DS at 14 weeks that was removed at 38 weeks. I went straight to 3.5cm and to 5cm at 40 weeks when I went into labor. I'm so glad I got one because certainly my cervix was ready to open as soon as it came out. The process to place the cerclage was pretty easy- it was a very short surgery and I was just crampy and off my feet that day and the next. After that I was fine. I ran almost everyday throughout my pregnancy up until I gave birth and never had any cervical shortening or problems. I would not have done well on bed rest. I'm planning on getting another one for this pregnancy (I'm 4 weeks 5 days)--better safe than sorry.
