I don't know if anyone has any tips/suggestions for this. Last Oct. I gave birth to my ds, he was a micropreemie at 24 weeks. He eats every 3 hours and has reflux (not an easy feed). He eats almost all his meals through g tube. I know when dd comes home she will be eating every 2 hours (typically) for awhile. Do any of you moms have a tight feeding schedule? I don't know how I am going to manage dd's feeds when ds is so high needs. TIA
Re: 2U1 Feeding ?
Hey Beyoga!
Nice to see you over here.
We're not in the exact situation you are (Andrew is high needs, but he eats well now) but man, I was pretty stressed with Elliott came home.
I had to give up BFing because I just couldn't handle it.
We ended up bottle feeding and on-demand and he eats every 4 hours. As an infant he went every 3, and about 4 at night. We also hired a nanny to come help for a while on Mondays - she took care of Andrew so I could give Elliott some attention. Tues/Thurs Andrew went to school. If you can get some help I highly recommend that.
I would do what you need to do to make it work. Sometimes I feel like poor Elliott is neglected but we do the best we can.
Thanks. We tried to hire help for the time I was supposed to be on bed rest this pregnancy and couldn't get reliable help in. I still have a freezer stash that is good from when I was pumping with Reid. I will let dad or who ever bottle feed with that. But yeah she'll have to wait sometimes I'm sure.
Reid was eating well (though not drinking much at all) until his reflux flared up the last couple months and it still isn't under control again. I know she will eat less often in a few months and if we can get Reid gaining weight and the reflux under control he will as well.
He also normally sleeps all night long so I know it will be temporary. This weekend one of our 2 major bridges to the next state (where dh works) was shut down and his employer all ready told him he can work at home as much as he needs and work what ever hours he needs (traffic is a nightmare now). And he normally has 1 day off during the week and works from home 1 day a week. So that's a big help.
Makes me feel like I need a drink all ready. LOL
My 2 1/2 year old son is exclusively fed by his GJ-tube and I have a 3 month old DD. We are in a little bit of a different situation though, because GJ-tube cannot take bolus feeds. He is on continuous feeds for 18 hours and off for 6. It is still hard just because all of the stuff that goes along with being tube fed. He is also on a small amount of oxygen 24/7. I exclusively BF DD and so far it has worked well. My husband is a great support and I also have the help of my family, especially my mom.
Just thought I would let you know you are not alone. It is not easy...but it can be done. I hope you have some support you can rely when needed. We are hoping that when our DD starts eating solids that our son will be more interested in eating. He has formed a strong aversion to eating which is getting worse as he gets older.
