Newly pregnant and really need OB recs! (Alexandria)

I just found out last week that I am pregnant the cycle after having a chemical pregnancy. I really want to see an OB immediately for bloodwork and to make sure that everything is okay as soon as I can (I would rather not wait until the normal 7-8 week checkup). I think that I want to deliver at Alexandria INOVA because it is close by, but if anyone else has any ideas I am open - just want a hospital close to Alexandria with private rooms.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with the office staff at OB Gyn Associates of Northern VA and you could not pay me to use one of their doctors anymore. Any ideas? Any thoughts on Physicians for Women?

I am going to have to have a c section if that makes a difference- and I want a practice who will be open to me coming in before the traditional 7-8 week appt if possible.

Thanks!

  • I delivered at Arlington Hospital Center (I'm in Alexandria too), but I was happy with my practice:

    Northern Virginian Physicians to Women

I'm not sure if they'd have you come in early or not, but you can always explain your recent situation and see if they will.

Because I delivered on a weekend, a doctor from another practice actually delivered DD:

    Dr. Crowther from

I cannot say enough good things about her.

  • Congrats!  I go to Physicians for Women and have nothing but good things to say.  In particular I really like Dr Siegel.  He helped us through our miscarriage and as soon as I found out I was pregnant again he had me come in (at about 5 weeks).  I am due to deliver at INOVA Alexandria in Nov!

  • I'd also recommend Physicians and Midwives in Alexandria - they've been great, no complaints here! Easy to get appointments, and I've never had to wait. I've also liked the mix if midwives and MDs, and the nurses/front desk staff are all really nice. I'm set to deliver at Inova-Alexandria next week.
  • I had a terrific experience with Capital Women's Care in Alexandria. Dr. Kusic was my primary OB, but Dr. Stas delivered my twins. All the OBs there are awesome. They deliver at Inova Fairfax.

another vote for NOVA Physicians to Women and Virginia Hospital Center. Dr. Lashgari is my hero :-) She is awesome--she delivered Warner 2.5 years ago and hopefully will deliver this new little person in February.

They just added a third doctor to the practice. I can't remember her last name...starts with an R. I have only met with her once, but she was super nice and thorough.

Also, their office is really well run. They do get backed up sometimes (as all offices do), but they really try hard to keep wait times down.
  • I delivered with Physicians and Midwives at Alexandria Inova and my MW was awesome. But I was focused on having a med-free birth so I can't really to speak to their c-section experience.

I only met with the doctors a few times and I really liked the MWs better.

I had a good experience at Alexandria Inova. The nurses were helpful and supportive.

    Good luck!

    ditto here.

  • I had two scheduled c-sections with Dr. Cunningham at P&W.  No complaints, and my recoveries were great (or at least I thought so!).  With my first, I am relatively certain my first appt was at 5 weeks or so.  The second was at 8-9 weeks, but I know they would have taken me earlier if I'd asked.

  • I really liked Tepeyac Family Center in Falls Church, VA. It was a half hour drive for my appointments but I really loved the group practice. They offer all the services & tests you need for high-risk but they also don't push them on your if you're low risk and all the staff are very positive in their attitude towards pregnancy. They deliver at Fair Oaks Hospital, which I know is not the closest for you (or me) but the OBs and staff are wonderful so I think it's worth the drive.

  • Just wanted to say that I wouldn't recommend OB GYN Assoc of NOVA to anyone, and I was with them through all three of my kids.  My favorite doctor there left after I had kid #2, which stunk, but I was too far into my pregnancy with #3 to comfortably switch once I started getting annoyed with them.  The doc who delivered #3 was whoever happened to be on call.  She was fine, but again, no rave reviews here.

Some day I need to switch, even for just my yearly exams.  I miss my guy who retired.

Anyway, I really REALLY liked delivering all three at INOVA Alexandria - many thumbs up to the nurses there - and to having a private room!  YesYes

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
