Special Needs

Maryland DDA

I know this is a bit of a long shot...but any mommies from Maryland?

Has anyone gone through the DDA application process for their child?

DS's interview is the 1st week of October and I'm just overwhelmed; not sure what to expect.

What all can the DDA provide if he's approved?

(We are on the autism waiver waiting list...#3493 or so I think).

Re: Maryland DDA

  • we only had an interview with a person from service coordination who was very nice.  but we were waitlisted for future needs...pretty much like everyone is (unfortunately).  my son has a genetic syndrome so i'm not sure if the autism waiver waiting list is different.  when the woman from service coordination came (which DDA is no longer funding companies like that the help with services) she just went over his history, etc.  she really really pushed to get us something now but from what i hear DDA in maryland is so screwed up and not funded enough that basically any person who needs it will be waiting a very very long time to get any sort of help. :(

  • We have not looked into this yet. It is good you are on the autism waiting list already. Another parent I know, whose son has a corpus callosum disorder like Nate, also got an Autism dx at age 4 and got on the waiting list then. Her son is 9 or 10 now. They are still on the waiting list. I also have no idea what getting DDA woudl entail for Nate. It seems sort of pointless at this time for us to push a dx just to get waitlisted. Good Luck and let us know what you find out (if anything)
