Inviting classmates for a birthday party?

School JUST started for DD... her birthday party is this Sunday. She wants to invite her whole class, which I don't mind doing (we have invited other non-school friends already). I was waiting for a headcount for the class today. Is it weird to send home invitations tomorrow for a party that's on Sunday? The worst that can happen is that they RSVP no, correct??

    No, I don't think it's weird.  You'll probably get a lot of nos or even no RSVPs.  It's hard with early in the school year birthdays.  We just started today.

    I did something similar.  DD's bday is 8/22 and it was the first day of school.  I sent her invites (girls only- it was a very girly party) that day for a 8/27 party.  I had 3 girls come (out of 10).

    Personally, I discourage my children from inviting the whole class to a birthday party.  My reasoning is that if you don't play with the child at school why would you invite them to your party.  We usually have our children invite 1 friend for every year old they are plus one extra.  This year DS invites 5 kids because he turned 4.  Being a teacher, I can say that to invite the whole class is something that we don't see to often anymore.  Most parents respond no unless they know the birthday child and that can make the child hosting the party feel bad if only a few friends show up.
