There are a lot of crafty ladies on this board so maybe someone has some ideas!
I am starting to think about Xmas gifts and I have everyone figured out but my cousin's DS who will be 21+mo at the time. I really want to make something for him since most of the family will load him down with things from Toys-R-Us.
My original thought was to have DH build him a small play kitchen (they have room) and make some felt food.....but my cousin and her DH are big into "kitchen's are for girls" ::eyroll:: so it has to be something "boyish". I thought about beanbags for a matching game....but they don't really play learning games with him so I can see them just being tossed after I leave. (Love my cousin but they are not very hands-on parents. They would rather he watch a video or play something alone in his room).
Any ideas?
Re: Homemade gift idea for 21+mo
Well, the tradition kitchen replacement for boys is a tool bench. If your H could make a play kitchen he could make a small tool bench. I'll try to think of some other things but it's hard if they're not hands on parents.
PS: My boy has a play kitchen and it's his favorite thing. He LOVES it!
Oh, what about a homemade easel? You could paint half of it with chalkboard paint and use the other half for paper and buy him some chalk and art supplies.
On the lines of the bean bag - what about a kid sized corn hole game? It'd work on his throwing skills
Otherwise, I love the tool bench idea. You could make him a belt and if your H can't make wooden tools I bet you could find some online.
Miles (6 year old Maine C00n mix), Boots (5 year old Lab mix), Darla (4 year old GSD/Collie mix), Frankie (1.5 year old DSH mix), Peanut (15 months old - 09/11), and Bean (arriving Feb 2013).
You can tell I don't have a boy b/c I didn't even think of that! Good idea! Maybe Pinterest will have some tool bench ideas
Maybe something to play dress-up with? My DD and our friend's little boy love dressing up as animals (fish, panda, elephant, etc). It could be as simple as felt masks with an elastic strap. And when my nephew was young, I made him an "elf" outfit with magic stones, a cloak, secret message, etc.
A few years ago I made these things for my neice and nephews - crayon roll-ups, coloring totes, a felt Mr. Potato Head, and a big fluffy TV-watching pillow (kind of like a bean bag). You could google and find patterns and tutorials.
