TTC after 35

coming off BCP - chart stalking please

So,  I came off BCP 30 days ago.  Here is my chart -

FF said I had O'ed on CD19 until I entered today's temp.  Now I am thinking this may be an anovulatory cycle (not surprising since it is my first off BCP).  I have been having bad PMS-like cramping for 4 days now.  I just want AF to arrive (DH was OOT for work on my good CM days - no need to POAS this month!), start a new cycle, and hope I O this time.

What do you ladies think?  Hope long did it take your cycles to reestablish themselves for you when you came off BCP?

Re: coming off BCP - chart stalking please

  • Sorry I don't have any advice for you on your chart.  My cycles actually became regular immediately after coming off bcps, but they were always pretty regular before I went on them too.  I have heard that a lot of women take some time to settle down aftewards, though.  I would just wait it out a bit and see how it goes for the next couple of weeks before worrying too much.

  • I was very regular before, but I was much younger.....hope I am just off to a slow start and things get back to "normal" quickly.  I need to work on my patience!  :)

  • It took me over 6 months before I started having ovulatory cycles.  I had problems and was not regular before BC which is why they put me on bc in the first place.  I think that it is shorter for those that only used them as birth control to start with.

  • It can take a while to get back to ?regular? (as my own chart can attest). The standard advice is wait 60 days before to think about seeing dr. Now is a good time to just learn temping and taking prenatals, changing eating/ exercise routines etc.

  • Hi - So I actually think you ovulated, maybe on CD19, maybe on CD17. Either way, you're still in the range for a normal luteal phase. With your temp dropping, AF is likely to be here soon.

You may not remember this if you've been on BCP for a long time, but ibuprofen works wonders for PMS cramping - just be advised it is contraindicated for pregnancy - tylenol only if you think you might be pregnant.

  • annalisel - you were right about the temp drop - AF showed up overnight.  I am trying to stay away from ibuprofen and use only Tylenol to get used to that change.  Man, I forgot how much worse my cramps were before BCP - I never had 4 days of cramps leading up before (1-2 was typical pre-BCP).

  • My work computer is effed up so I'm not able to see your chart. But I went off BCP last month and I'm not sure that I ovulated in my first month. (I was temping but then the combo of being on vacation and thinking that my thermometer broke caused me to give up temping mid-cycle.) I just got AF yesterday so I only had a 27-day cycle this time. I'm temping again (turns out my thermometer wasn't broken, just uncooperative) so hopefully we'll both get back on track this cycle.
