Anyone breastfeed and have an IUD? I'm wondering which one to get that won't reduce my milk production. If you did have a reduction in supply, which one did you use?
I have the Mirena IUD and I'm still breastfeeding the twins. I had it placed at 9 weeks pp and I haven't noticed any drop in my supply. I had one placed at 8 weeks pp with C and I nursed him until about a week shy of 14 months.

I have Paraguard and still BF'ing. OB said the amt of hormones int the Mirena was low enough to not adversely affect bf'ing, but I'm so over hormonal birth control. So paraguard was the right choice for me. No changes in bf'ing.
I've had both over the past 3 yrs. I nursed G to 14 months. I did have supply issues, while on the mirena, and a lot o stress associated with the fact he wouldn't take any furmula as supplement. It's unclear to me if the mirena contributed to my supply, or the fact I got my period super fast post-partum, or just bad DNA.W/ the Paraguard I'm producing less overall (~17oz/day vs ~22) but it's been more consistent and I'm not seeing the drops I had last time. bUT I haven't had a period yet. I know I'm ovulating by seeing even my current supply drop from time to time, but that's about it.So overall, I can't blame my low supply on the mirena. It's possible it was a side effect, but I will be hard pressed to say the cause of my supply shifts w/ griffin. However, the fear that it was contributing to it WAS one of the two reasons I opted for PAraguard this time around.
I've had the Mirena since 6 weeks after delivery, and it doesn't seem to be lowering my milk supply. I didn't have any BC after Miles and I'd say milk production is comparable this time around.
