C-sections

anyone use a Belly Bandit after a c/s?

I bought one before this c/s situation came up. I heard it is still ok to use for after a c/s, has anyone used it before? thoughts?

  • I have not yet had my c/s, but I talked to my doctor about this for a second time today.  She said "they" (who they are, I have no idea), no longer recommend binders of any sort after c/s for a variety of reasons.  I keep reading about them over and over on here, which is why I asked her about getting one again.  So ultimately, I am going to go with my doctor's advice.  She's been absolutely wonderful to me for 12 years, I'm not going to start doubting her now.

  • I waited 4 days to start using mine.  My OB didn't have an opinion either way.

Something about squishing my insides while I was cut open and still healing with stitches just made me want to wait a few days before starting to use it.

Compared to my last c/s I look SOOOO much better already.  It took me about 5 months to get to this point last time.  FWIW, I have diastasis recti and a hernia, so I will always have a bit bigger of a pooch than most, but the BB has helped.

  • I started using the BB about 3 days after my c-section. I don't have any comparision for helping me get back into shape but it just made me feel better. It kinda held everything in and I didn't feel as jiggly as when I wasn't wearing it
  • I starting using one around 2 weeks post partum, and it did make the jiggle lessen. It also shrunk my belly pretty quick. I didn't wear it all the time-- just about 4 hours a day throughout the day.

  • I started using mine the day after my CS. It made a world of difference in both the appearance of my stomach and the way I felt. The support was really nice, especially if I had to sneeze or something. I just got a cheapy one off of Amazon, though. It wasn't an actual Belly Bandit, just a binder.

I showed the nurses the binder before I put it on and they didn't have any objections. They actually helped me put it on.

  • My OB who is a super fit runner and my midwife suggested the 5 dollar gold's gym band from wal mart. I'm 6 weeks post psrtum and my tummy is almost flat again. I gained 40 pound and had a ten pound baby. I wore the band for 3 weeks straight and it really helped to hold everything in, stabilize my core and back, and pull everything back in. I also had diastisis with pregnancy and my abs went back together nicely. I HIGHLY recommend it!

plus it's one size fits all!

  • I didn't use a Belly Bandit, but did use a cheaper knockoff from Amazon.  I loved it.  It helped with the jiggle feeling, flattened my stomach out fairly quickly, and helped to support everything.  Laughing and sneezing felt MUCH better with it on.  I wore mine after my staples came out (4 days PP) until 6 weeks PP.  I will definitely use it again.

I'm going to take your advice and get this after my OB appointment today! Really excited about it!

  • I was actually given a binder by the hospital after my c-section.   It made a world of difference in how I felt and I was back to my pre-pregnancy size/shape very quickly!

  • I tried and it hurt for me, quite honestly. By the time it was no longer painful I figured it wouldn't be that useful anyway!

  • I started using mine about a week after. It was the most amazing thing ever! I had a really rough recovery, anesthesia and I don't mix well plus I was out of shape when I got prego. It helped a lot with my back ache and made sitting up a lot easier. GL

  • Yes! and it helped a lot.  I didn't use a belly bandit, but I ordered a c-section abdominal binder (it comes from hawaii), and it's the same idea.  the fabric is cotton, so it doesn't rub the skin.  I started wearing it on the 2nd day after my c-section.  It made it so much easier to walk because my belly wasn't hanging down.  It also helps shrink the belly.  Once the belt was too big (about 5-6 days post-op), I went out to a medical pharmacy and bought another ab binder.  I used that from then on, and even slept in it.   So yes, I had no trouble and I actually suggest using one.  After a c-sec your belly is going to feel like a big water balloon , so the belt helps keep it supported.

  • My OB prescribed a binder from the hospital and I loved it.  Really helped me to feel supported.  I wore it for about 3 weeks almost non-stop (took 1-2 hour/day break per OB's orders) and it really helped my belly go down.  Hated my Belly Bandit.  I found it too stiff to be comfortable, whereas the hospital one was breathable and had a longer velcro piece, so as my belly started to go down, I could easily adjust.  Velcro on the Belly Bandit was too short for me after the first week.

  • I used a belly bandit and the medela binder. I still ended up getting my muscles repaired along with a tuck. If yo sh*t is to' up - it ain't going nowhere no matter how many bands you put on. If you had a slight pooch, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. In my case, I had diastasis and twin skin...although I only had one baby.
