Pregnant after IF

Polyps and pregnancy

My good friend has been going through unexplained IF for over 3 years. All levels were good, S/A was good, and went through several IUI's but nothing ever happened. Finally, they found some tiny polyps but said they probably had nothing to do with her IF. They went ahead and removed them and my friend tried a cycle without treatment and got pregnant. Of course they don't really know if the polyps had anything to do with her IF but she is now 8 weeks along.

My question: Do you think that if she has any polyps grow back that they might interfere with her pregnancy? Do you think she will be considered high risk if more polyps grow back?

Re: Polyps and pregnancy

  • I do think that uterine polyps can interfere with embryo implantation, so it's best to have them removed.  I had some removed during some previous surgeries for that reason.  Me having the polyps removed didn't significantly improve my fertility by any means but it was good to have them removed.  Uterine polyps are pretty common from what I understand and I am not sure, but I'd think that once you're pregnant that polyps wouldn't grow.  I would think the pregnancy hormones would kind of keep polyps from growing.
