XP: Cervical Polyp?

Anyone experience this? I was told today I have a large polyp sticking out of my cervix which is causing my spotting. They do not remove during pregnancy as it probably goes up the cervix. I also had one during my first pregnancy and was told by different doctors that they don't recommend removing during pregnancy either. Anyone have this? I googled today and it looks like some have them removed while pregnant and others don't. There is also a risk of infection either way apparently. Please share if you have any experience with this. Thanks!

Re: XP: Cervical Polyp?

  • Not to sound snarky, but is there a reason to remove it while pregnant? Is it causing pain or discomfort that isn't tolerable? I understand that it is scary and possibly painful, but I say if you can't notice it and it's safe for baby to keep it in for now.

  • not experienced, but I think it'd be smart to just leave it for now. I realize either way there is a risk of infection, but I think it'd be super dangerous to mess with your cervix during pregnancy and that would probably carry a greater risk of infection than if you just left it.

  • I am all for leaving it and not messing with my cervix! I just heard mixed opinions about what certain drs do and was just wondering if anyone had gone through this. No pain, just annoying/worrisome spotting.

  • A LITTLE TMI!!   The blessed appearing during pregnancy cervical polyp...the one that has caused me hours of worry, tears, and Dr. appts.  I too, have a cervical polyp that is right at the opening of my cervix.  It has caused HEAVY bleeding off and on throughout pregnancy for me, I am almost 27 weeks and this polyp has by far stressed me out more than anything else.  Seeing the amount of blood that it can produce is astonishing to me.  My Dr. finally caught it in an active bleed so we were able to say without a doubt that the polyp was causing the bleeding, he didn't feel comfortable ruling out other things until he SAW it bleed.  He said sometimes they will cauterize it during pregnancy if it's caught actively bleeding, but that the bleeding itself is not dangerous, only annoying.  He said that they don't like to mess with the cervix during pregnancy because it can be fragile and tempermental.  I told him to yank that thing off during delivery!!  It tends to bleed after moderate activity, and then fills the vaginal cavity inside, clots up, and then gushes out for a couple of days...it is one of the scariest things I had experienced, especially after having lost a pregnancy before.  Good luck!  These things can be a pain!

  • I was told I had a polyp at an exam a few years ago, and then I went back in a few weeks later to get it removed and it disappeared! I haven't had a problem since. Mine never caused any problems..never spotted or anything. I guess I am no help here, haha but maybe yours will disappear, too!
