I've posted on here several times about seeing my friend's then almost 5 yr old wiggle down in his seat belted high back booster until the lap belt was at his neck all while his mom was oblivious driving in the front seat.
Well... 2 Fridays ago we went with a friend of twins up hiking. She offered to drive all of us in her van and offered to let Dylan borrow her older son's high back booster.
I put him in it, explained that he needed to leave the belt at his shoulder and under no circumstances was he to touch it.
He's a pretty good kid when it comes to minding - especially when I explain that it's a safety concern.
I looked back half way thru our trip - he's jacking with the belt and has it under his arm pit.
Warned him again and he was playing with it again on our way home.
I'm sure that it's the kind of thing where the novelty wears off and they stop playing with it but for now I'm happy leaving him in a 5 point.
He can do both latches on his 5 point just as quickly as he could with the lap belt and booster so it's not like moving him to a booster would make things any easier on me or him, KWIM?
Re: Another reason he'll be in a 5 point until he's in middle school....
Me too. DS is only 3 but I plan to keep him in his harnessed seat until he's too big for it and then in a belt positioning high back booster forever. I have seen a few photos of kid's his age in belt positioning boosters online recently and it has taken all my will power not to reply with...warnings? links to recommendations? i don't know what. But man it's just so dangerous!
My willpower was reinforced when a the family of a friend of a friend was involved in a wreck. Their 7 year old was not in a belt positioning booster of any sort and had wiggled it around so the belt was not positioned correctly and is now a quadraplegic. Her almost 2 year old sister was killed while riding in her forward facing convertible seat in the injury we've all seen and heard about through viral videos.
