3rd Trimester

How bad is missing your 37 week appt? :(

I am double booked.  My doctor's appointment is at the same time as a meeting at work that I cannot miss (and I cannot send someone in my place).  My doctor does not have any openings until Monday, and neither does her partner.  Apparently the midwife quit, and my doctor is just returning from vacation so they are swamped right now.

  • You are gonna be out of work in a few weeks right? Why can't you miss the meeting? Can you speak with your boss and explain? Yo uhave to go to your appointments.

I am high risk though, I would never miss an appointment, but that is me.

I tend to agree.  At this stage in the pregnancy, I don't think you should miss any appointments.

  • 37 weeks is not a big deal. My Dr just measured me and asked the same questions as before, if I'm cramping or bleeding etc. Definitely reschedule as soon as possible because they will start checking to see if your dilated. You'll be fine, as long as you feel fine. :)

  • I'd tell your work too bad.  If it were me that'd just be the way it is.  I refuse to potentially put my baby in harms way for some stupid meeting at work.  There are no meetings that the information cannot be relayed or something.  If it is that impairative that YOU be there, ask them to reschedule.  If your dr is anything like mine, you've had this appointment scheduled for a while.  This "emergency" can wait.

ehh, i tend to disagree. i had a pretty easy pregnancy up until about 35 weeks and then my LO started measuring a little small. my 37week appointment was when they measured her, did an u/s and decided to induce because of IUGR concerns. that just goes to show that a lot can change & very quickly.

i guess, though, if your doc has no issue with you missing it, then it's up to you.

It's different for everyone, for sure. All depends on your pregnancy and doctor.

I agree with this. I hate my job, though, and there is no way it would ever come before my baby.

  • I don't think i woulld be willing to miss an appointment that far along. I would probably tell work to stuff it in this situation.
  • i think as long as you've had an uneventful pregnancy and you feel good and baby is moving you are fine. maybe call and get their opinion on what you can do? If the doc is so concerned about you missing an appointment they will fit you in another day.

This.  I almost missed my 36 week appt just because of the San Diego blackout and they weren't going to reschedule it since rescheduling it would give me 2 appts during week 37.  No one in the office seemed concerned.

  • It doesn't seem like your doctor's office is too concerned with you missing the appointment.

  • My advice is to judge how you are feeling.  If you are having cramps, pelvic pressure, other weird aches and pains that might be pointing to labor starting, I'd probably prioritize the dr. appt.  If you are feeling good, no worries/concerns, and you absolutely have to go to this meeting at work, just go!  You have your 38 week appt. scheduled though, right?

  • For me personally, I wouldn't miss appointments, however, if your doctor isn't concerned with you rescheduling and you are confident that there isn't anything to worry about right now, then I don't think it's the worst thing if you miss it. Just reschedule as soon as you can, and call your doctor if you notice any changes.

  • I honestly don't think it's a big deal. You'll see your doc a few days after your scheduled appointment anyway. Go ahead and reschedule.

  • I take my job really seriously, and know the pressure to not miss meetings, but with the screening they do for pre-e at this point, I think it's reckless to not have an appointment at this late date. Do what you need to do, but you need to pee in that cup and get your BP taken, just in case. I'm pretty sure that you won't look back and regret not going to this meeting in the grand scheme of your career, but if there was something to be caught regarding your or your LO's health, you will remember that.

  • Maybe see if you could just stop by and see one of the nurses this week and get your blood pressure/urine checked.  Otherwise, as long as nothing new is going on with you/how you are feeling and you are not high risk, i'd probably go ahead and miss the appointment for work.

  • Frankly missing an appointment for work, will just tell your work know now how much more important they are compared to your child. I would go to your appointment and make sure your work knows that this is something they will have to begin to understand. The fact is, your child will be here before you know it and you will have many more appointments and unforseeables that will make you miss work or late to work. If you job is not understanding of this then I would look to something else.

I'll disagree with this. Just because you feel "fine" does not mean you ARE fine. I went to my 37 week appt. when pregnant with my DS, feeling fine, and ended up being admitted and delivering him 3 hours later due to high bp and the fact that they discovered he triple wrapped the cord around himself. I'm not saying this to scare you, however, if you can reschedule within a few days of your original appt, then I don't the problem of going to your work meeting but don't miss your Doctor's appointment all together. They want to see you every 1-2 weeks at this time for a reason!
