Hi everyone! Some of you who are my FB friends are aware of that I am 29
weeks pregnant with a beautiful baby girl who unfortunately will be
born missing a part of her brain. It looks like in addition to that the
baby is having major bowel issues. I may now have to deliver via Csxn
and deliver at U-M instead of SJMH. This is so that in case she needs to
be transferred to Mott's we can be together at the same hospital.
PLEASE PLEASE - I'm looking for recommendations regarding ANY of the
following providers at U-M:
- OBGYNs
- Maternal-Fetal Specialists
- Pediatricians
- Neonatologists (newborn specialists)
- Pediatric Gastroenterologists
- Pediatric Neurologists
I realize this is a long shot, and seriously I am e-mailing EVERY former
professor/instructor I had while in nursing school! TIA!
Re: U-M Recommendations
We see Dr. James Baker (General Pediatrics) and really like him. He has even gone out of his way to call us after hours to make sure we got all the medical equipment we needed, and to give us test results.
ETA: I am so sorry you have to go through this. What an amazing mother you are, making sure your precious baby gets the best chances she can get. ((HUGS))
wow, i'm truly truly sorry to hear about your baby girl.
My IL's swear by UofM. had the hospital been closer to us, it would definitely be our first choice. However, i personally have never been there for myself so i have only stories to go off of.
my Fi's first wife delivered all their 3 kids at UofM, along with Fi's sister's 3 kids, and 5/9 of Fi's siblings. (yes a very large family lol).
However, their Dr is no longer seeing new patients. we looked into seeing him for our LO but it didn't work out that way
My SIL was born with a heart condition. i believe it's a heart anurism (ok, don't judge, i know i butchered that word lol). She was born at Beaumont RO but was airlifted to UofM children's hospital. She was just a couple hours old when she needed open heart surgery
However, the Dr's have taken such amazing care of her at UofM. She's now 25 and still travels from big rapids to AA to do her exams there.
since i have been with Fi i have visited the hospital numerous times- anywhere from minor issues with kids to surgery with the kids. so i definitely trust that they are an amazing hospital.
One thing i know my IL's always brag about is the ronald mcdonald house and how accommodating they are.
sorry i know i'm not much help.. but figured i'd let you know how my family's experience has been with them.

Hi there,
I work at the U of M as a physical therapist (not physically at the hospital, but in a satellite clinic).
I am 23 weeks pregnant and my OB/GYN is Kimberly Zander, at The Canton Health Center. Not sure where you live, but that maybe closer for you for your general care. I have seen a few of the MD's in that practice since I previously had a miscarriage, and they were all great.
However, for a maternal-fetal medicine/high risk MD.. I don't know anyone in particular, but just googled it. Here is a link on the U of M website that has the different MD's in that area. Also, if you click on the link where it says Obstetrics- High risk (on the Left side) it has the phone number to call for appointments.

As for the other types of doctors... maybe try googling it and see if you get another similar page like that.
Best of luck to you and your baby. I am sure they will take the best care of you at U of M.
I'm sorry to hear of your baby girl's condition, but Mott is a great place to be. Of the list you have above I can only recommend Dr. (Cosmos) Van De Ven, he was my primary MF Dr. As far as neo-nate we didn't really have just one assigned to us, the chief of neo-nates came and talked to us before our DD was born and they pretty much rotate a lot of drs. thru the NICU.
If at all possible, please do deliver at Mott, it would be extremely hard for you to be in one hospital and your DD in another.
The parent hosts of the NICU - Janet Sides and Jenni Black are very supportive and helpful.

I live in Ann Arbor, and will be delivering at the U also.
My OB is Jennifer Collin, she is great, and she works with about 20 other OB's. Mott is almost done with their renovations, so that is a huge plus. My OB says the hospital will be super wonderful.
As far as Ped. I think I am going to use one of the Dr.'s at Liberty peds. I nanny for one of the infant nurses there, and she is wonderful and only has GREAT things to say about the dr. there. I am not sure if they are the right group of dr.s for you and your family, but they do work with the UofM alot.
Good Luck and if you had any other questions that I can help you with in the Ann Arbor Area, I hope I can help.
I'm kind of late on this!
I delivered at U of M with my first and will definitely deliver at U of M this time. Our daughter most likely has Down's syndrome. Every OB, MFM, ultrasound tech, etc has been absolutely amazing.
The OB I see is Seamus O'Broin. He's great and works out of Canton. Everyone at the perinatal assessment center is awesome.
