Have any of you girls had a natural birth/delivery out of HFWB?
Or have any used the tubs there?
I am torn between Prov. Southfield and HFWB for a natural birth....The tubs at HFWB are so much smaller and I am not sure if they will serve the full purpose, I love that hospital soo much and I wish their tubs were larger!!
Thanks
Re: Henry Ford W. Bloomfield
I attempted a natural VBAC at HFWB, but ended up needing an epidural due to a VERY long labor. I did labor in the tub for a number of hours, and found it to be a big help. The tub was a fine size for me.
If you end up with a labor that is not textbook, HFWB is the place to be. You will keep your room and will not be moved out. Even if I hadn't had a VBAC, there is no way I would have been allowed to stay in the ABC. I believe the ABC has limits for how long you can labor in the tub which I well exceeded, and I needed a Foley Ball, AROM, and Pitocin.
I had a natural birth at HFWB with the midwives...loved it! The tub was awesome...I was in it for several hours. I do remember that there was something weird about the shape of the tub, but they gave me a partially deflated birthing ball to use as a pillow and it worked well. The tubs are obviously not big enough to do an actual water birth, but great for laboring.
I loved the hospital, the midwives, the nurses, and especially the food! I never visited Providence though, so I don't know how they compare.
