Hi all! I just got back this afternoon from our fantastic vacay. Munich is awesome. It's half small-city, half old-town, with a nice river running through the middle. And a huge park to walk through. Where they had a nude sunbathing area. In the middle of a field. Not shielded at all from people walking by. As you would expect, the only nude sunbathers were overweight middle-aged men.
Salzburg is freaking adorable and the people are super-friendly, although because it's a smaller town, we did run into some shop owners and waiters who did NOT speak English well at all -- thank goodness I brushed up on my German before going and was able to muddle through.
Vienna was not nearly as awesome as I thought it would be (it has much more of a big city feel than I expected). We did spend a fantabulous day at a palace just outside of the main part of town and the grounds, which have a billions different kinds of gardens, a hedge maze (which is fun for about the first 30 seconds), and the Vienna zoo is there too (we wouldn't have gone, but they have pandas!)
We only had one day of really bad weather, and one mis-adventure (my rolling suitcase broke and we had to go out and buy a new one in Vienna!)
Interesting discoveries:
1. In Germany and Austria, when you ride the subway trains, you buy your ticket or pass at the machine, and then get on the train. You don't show it to anyone or swipe it anywhere to prove you have it. They just trust you. Um, yeah, I don't think that would work in the U.S.
2. They drink a LOT of coffee over there, and none of it is decaf. Any time I asked for decaf, they had to dig out some instant decaf to make for me. So I gave up after day 3.
3. My internal clock is far too strong and made it next to impossible for me to get a decent night sleep. Finally, on day 7, I managed to get like 6 hours in a row. Most other nights I was lucky to piece together 4-5 hours over the course of the night. Made for some crankiness toward the end of the week.
So, as of now, I am still pg but not having any symptoms at all yet. It's probably too early, but I'd feel better if I could come up with some phantom symptoms or something. I have to wait until Thursday when my doc is back from vacation to go in for a beta and u/s. It's going to be a long week. <sigh>
I hope you all had a nice week!
Re: Back from Europe
Elf- glad you had a great trip. Hopefully you relaxed and enjoyed yourself. Keeping my fingers crossed for your tests. Hope your internal clock will reset soon and you can get some sleep. Trip sounded beautiful. Bet ya got some really great pics.
Welcome back! That's where we are going for Christmas (minus Vienna--although I have a funny story about losing my passport in the Schoenbrunn Gardens last time I was there; only funny because I eventually found it). My mom lives in Austria, about 2 hours south of Salzburg. I love it out there, so beautiful!
Sounds like you had a great time. Hope all goes well with your beta this week!

Hey there! It sound like you have had a wonderful trip. I'm jealous! We have very close family friends that are from Salzburg, (the husband's name is Egbert and as a teen he was an extra in The Sound of Music, so yeah, he's Austrian, lol). My sister is in the Peace Corps and stationed in Jordan so we were going to meet her in Salsburg with our friends for Christmas, but I'm not so sure we are going to do that now. It would make me nervous to be that far away from my OB at that point.
Anyhow, I thought about you a lot while you were away and am so glad to hear that you are still doing well. I am also jealous that you are having your appointment on Thursday. Mine is on Friday. I too have had no symptoms except being tired and the need to pee frequently with the occaisional mild cramping thrown in for good measure. Yesterday though my boobs finally started feeling really full and a little sore. I can tell that the slightest bit of queasy is starting to creep in too, but I can keep it in check by frequent snacking.
You're right, it is going to be a long week! Thinking good thoughts for us both. Take Care!
Glad that you had a great trip. There are cities in the US that have the honor system also. I was shocked the first time that I experienced it here.
