DS had his speech evaluation today with the speech pathologist his psychologist recommended. He was diagnosed as being on the Autism spectrum a few weeks ago. The speech diagnosis is "Receptive and Expressive Language Impairment". His expressive language is on level of a 1yr 11month old and his receptive language is on level of a 1yr 9month old. She feels that he has strengths and a good base for improving quickly. He will begin meeting with her every Wednesday for 45 minutes starting on the 21st.
She also wants me to get him a hearing test just to make sure. She did say that she thinks it will be fine but likes to cover all the bases. She is also referring us to a OT for his sensory issues (texture issues, to walking, etc.).
We also are supposed to be going back to his psychologist in the next week or so, waiting on an opening, and the pyschologist said he will give me a better idea of where he is on the spectrum at that point.
Re: Speech Eval was today
My son has been in ST for almost a year. When we started he was 19 months and had 2 words, and only 2 babbling sounds.
He also has seen an OT for a year for eating and sensory issues, and fine motor.
He's made major major strides in the last year. He will eat anything. He is talking in complete sentences. He still has some oral motor issues and sounds he just can't figure out, but he's doing really well.
Good luck!
