Pregnant after IF

Have any of you gotten a BFP after numerous IUI attempts?

Long story short, we have done 7 unsuccessful IUI cycles and are going to attempt #8 (we would do IVF but do not have the $$$) - I am fine, our issue is my hubby has a low sperm count...I am just looking to see if any of you out there have gotten a BFP after so many IUIs?  Once we do have the $$ for IVF we will do it for now we are doing the IUIs since our insurance covers it unlimited...thanks for any feedback :)

  • i just got mine on iui #4 with a donor...  it was frozen and the count was 9 million...  It is still VERY early too though.

  • We got our BFP with IUI #7.  DH had great numbers but I have PCOS and our insurance doesn't cover any IF treatments so we were 100% OOP.  As much as we wanted to do IVF, it wasn't an option financially so we were going to do as many IUIs as our RE would allow us.  I think he was going to let us do only 1 more if #7 didnt' work.

Have you tried changing your medications?  For #7 I asked my RE if I could try injectables - I responded terrible to the Bravelle and ended up with only 1 follie but we got lucky.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for your feedback ladies!  I did ask about switching to injectables, they said because I respond well to the clomid they didn't think it was necessary but it was my choice - our insurance does not cover it but does cover the clomid so we figured we would stick with that :)  Each cycle I have had between 2-4 mature follies, the only thing working against us is my hubby's low count :(  I know when it's meant to be it will happen, in the meantime hopefully we have the IVF money soon!

Has he seen a urologist at all? You insurance may cover one ( check first) and they may put him on clomid (or another med) to help his count.

  • i did clomid- my first cycle- that was cancelled- it thinned out my lining ridiculously.

I then moved on to injectibles, because the doctor, knew we didn't have an endless supply of sperm- since we were using a donor...or finances...  She knew we wanted to be aggressive.

  • It may be worth looking into switching meds even though it may cost you a little bit of money.  Our injectable cycle wasn't cheap but after 6 unsuccessful IUIs, we felt we needed to try something new.

You also may want to talk to your RE about the Clomid - I don't know a lot about Clomid since my RE doesn't use it anymore but after 7 cycles of it, it may not be safe for you.

  • He saw a urologist in March, after a thorough exam there is nothing structurally or medically wrong with him so it's what they can "unexplained" low count - the only thing they think is he works around 2500 degree heat 12 hours a day 6 days a week at work so this may be effecting it :(  They said clomid would not help him - as far as me the docs have talked to me a couple times since I have done so many cycles - because all my bloodwork and ultrasounds have been normal and my lining has not been effected it's the only reason they are letting me proceed - I just hope to have the IVF money soon so we can just move on :)

I would still check out the injectables and how much it will cost.  I did clomid and fermara and responded beautifully all 4 cycles but nothing.  My first injectable cycle, IUI#5, was the only cycle I got a BFP.  Although, injectables are a lot more expensive.

  • The cost of the injectable are very expensive, since we are still trying to save $$ for IVF I think we will just stick with the clomid since it's covered...if my hubby's numbers were higher I think we would try the injectables but since we knew upfront IUI would most likely not work we are hesitant to put out the $$ for the injectables :(
