When Do They Lose Flexibility?

DS is 17mo and still just about folds in half without batting an eye. I'm thinking of putting him in gymnastics or baby yoga (if I can find it) so he can keep that awesome limberness as long as possible. Is your DC still uber-flexible? If not, when did they start to "stiffen up"?

Re: When Do They Lose Flexibility?

  • My DS has never been very flexible. He can barely touch his toes and keep his legs straight. I think it must be genetic as my DH is not flexible at all and really works on stretching. My grandma, OTOH, could still put her leg straight above her head in her 80s. My DD seems in between at this point.

  • Harm is still very flexible, I've not seen really much stiffening at all.  We have him in gym and I wonder if that helps.

  • Not really sure.  I feel like it's usually around 3 or 4....or maybe it just depends on the kid.  I know my 15 months old is still super, super flexible (he often holds his leg straight up to his face and just *hangs out*???) but my 4 year old is not flexible anymore (but I know he used to be).  The 4 year old has been in dance and tumbling since last year, but apparently that isn't making a difference in his flexibility lol.

  • I don't know, but my 3 year old is still pretty flexible!

  • DD just sat down and did a straddle split yesterday, out of nowhere. Never seen her do that before, but I can't imagine she's lost any flexibility just yet, lol.
