Eco-Friendly Family

Tried the baking soda hair wash....

And, it seriously made my hair feel like I shampooed it.     It was squeaky clean.    Why have I spent so much money on shampoo over the years!!!???

Re: Tried the baking soda hair wash....

  • because of clever marketing. No you don't NEED lather and oodles of bubbles for clean hair (not to mention the nasty chemicals that are included). Yay for EF success!

  • Yep!   I've been spreading the word:)   My DH thinks I'm nuts.... but, since I do the shopping.

Too bad I still love pretty smells and pretty bottles, though...... damn you clever marketing!!!

  • I'm planning on changing to eco-/health/hair friendly products when my shampoo runs out and have been doing some research...but I'm not sure what you mean about baking soda hair wash. How do you make it? How do you use it? My hair is so unhealthy but money is impossible to find.

I just used 2tbsp of baking soda dissolved in 1 cup of water.   I don't think I'd need to use that much baking soda next time, though.

You could also rinse with apple cider vinegar as a conditioner. Instructions here.

  • You're lucky! The first time I did it a couple of years ago, I stopped after about a week because it felt so sticky and gross. I'm almost 2 weeks in this time and it's still sticky but getting better. Bragg's apple cider vinegar with a little bit of honey makes my hair super shiny too. I'm still working on using honey as face wash, only because I have a bunch of my natural face soap left and am trying to use it first. Glad it's working for you!

I know that sometimes the stickiness just happens, but one thing that can make it worse is if you use hair products with silicone in them like conditioners, hair gel or mousse.

Raw honey is the best face wash! I like it when it has crystalized some for a little grittiness. :)  You just smear a little on your face, rub it around for a couple of minutes, and wipe it off with a wash cloth. Super easy! :)

  • It was a big fail for me, too...when I first tried it. But, after seeing it work for so many people and now that I have shorter hair, I'm thinking about giving it another go :) We'll see!!!
