Email to tell your boss you're pregnant?

OK via email? I rarely see my boss and we've been playing phone tag for the last week. I have told close friends and family but haven't announced to the world yet because I'm waiting to tell him first. Is it taboo to inform him in an email?

    I would think it would be better to say in person. If calling him via phone hasn't worked maybe just send an email requesting a meeting. Not sure what type of job you have but thats what I might have to do with my principal when I am ready...he's a hard man to get a hold of but I still need to do it in person...

    I would tell him in person like PP said and request to have a meeting.  I think it would be too awkward to tell him via email.

    I think it's better to do it in person or over the phone.  As a supervisor, I would be a little insulted if one of my employees emailed that kind of important information to me.  I would want to talk about their maternity leave plans and try to get a handle on what to plan for in the course of the next year.  But it also depends on how close you two are, and it sounds from your description that you aren't very close.  I guess only you can know if he would find it offensive or not. 

    If you can't catch him on the phone, can you schedule a meeting with your boss?  Then you will have a set-aside time for you two to discuss it.

    Thanks. My question is answered. It did seem a bit inappropriate  but I have been having such a hart time getting a hold of him it crossed my mind.

    I agree with others. Request a meeting over email and that should get your boss' attention. It's really best to discuss this type of thing in person if at all possible I think.

    I would set up a meeting.  I had a coworker who did it by email and it was just weird.  She IS weird though.

    I have 2 bosses that I have to tell separately, and one I will be telling in person because I know he will be respectful to me. The other will NOT be happy and to be honest, I think I'd cry if I did it in person, so I will be calling that boss.
