weight gain check in?

HI all, I am 26 weeks (and probably a few days) and have gained a total of about 20 lbs. Is that too much?? I am worried because I dont want to gain too much... :-p  I am a teacher so I am walking a lot more now, so maybe that will keep some of the weight in check...and Im trying to make healthier choices.

Re: weight gain check in?

  • I'm at a 25 lb gain, everyones different. I've brought up my concern with my doctor a few times and they always say 'Those who usually gain a lot in the beginning even out in the end' or when I mentioned I was a little overweight when I became pregnant they say 'you will be for awhile'

I eat the best I can and try to stay active and just let my body do what it wants to do. I can always step up the dieting and exercise again later on. I lost a lot of weight last year and I know I can do it again after I have the baby.

  • mmm maybe a little high... don't worry, tho... I gained 50 with my 1st... some gain a lot, some gain a little! Walking will definitely help, and if you crave certain junk food, try to set limits for yourself (ie, no more than 1 sweet/dessert per day)

I've gained 10 lbs at 18 weeks w/ twins... w/ my last pregnancy I gained very little on the front end, then made up for it on the back end. GL!

  • I just saw my doctor last week and she said I had lost 3lbs. which at first I was happy and shocked about it. But, she wasnt too pleased about the weight loss, I have been eating like I should and getting some walking in. She told me that this was the time to be gaining weight and to not worry about how much I will be gaining.

  • I think I had gained more by than when I was pregnant the first time with DS.   I ended up gaining 45 lbs total with him.  Put on the weight a little slower in the first part with my second pregnancy, DD, and gained 35 lbs total.  This time it seems to be even slower, in my eighteenth week and only up 2 lbs.  Aiming closer to the 25 pound mark with this one.  I've tried to snack throughout the day instead of eating huge meals, and having healthy alternatives (e.g., baby carrots and hummus with pesto...love, love, LOVE this combo) on hand for guiltfree eating.

  • I have gained a total of 10lbs, and I am 21w4d..At my 18.5 week appointment I had only gained 7lbs and my doctor was fine with that.

  • I'm 24 weeks and at my 22 week appt I had gained 19 lbs. My doctor didn't say anything about it. I've been concerned that it's too much too quickly, but I try to focus on making healthy choices and keeping as active as possible. The weight will come off afterward, so I'm not going to beat myself up over it. You're probably doing just fine!

  • I say..dont stress about it! Everybody is different. We all have different bodies, carry weight differently, eat different, different metabolisms.  So dont compare yourself to others.

I dont even go on the scale.  I probably gained about that much but was underweight before..

We are pregnant and our bodies will do what they need to do.  So don't compare or stress or go on the scale! If you are alright doc will tell you.

  • 18 weeks almost and down about 4lbs. I was 140lbs at 5'11" with DD & gained 50 with my first pregnancy, and I had a hard time losing it. Now I am eating a lot healthier and getting exercise playing with DD so the weight is coming off/balancing out.

  • It's my first child and I was up 14 lbs. at my 24 week appt. I started out overweight though, so I'm working hard to eat healthy and not gain any more than necessary.

  • I lost 12 lbs due to morning sickness in the beginning and have only put back on 7 lbs by 27 weeks, my Dr wasnt concerned at first but as of late they always ask if i'm eating...sadly I eat nonstop lol I just am afraid to pack on the lbs at the end.

  • I am up about 15-16lbs at 21 weeks. I looked back at my other pg book and I didn't gain for a couple of weeks at the end so I think my body does most of it's gaining right now. I know baby is about 14 oz so that's about a lb right there! I also lost weight at the beginning of the year and was about 7lbs less than I was when I got pg the other 2 times. Those 7 lbs flew on like crazy....it was like my body needed that extra fat so I feel like it's okay for now. I just try to eat well and walk as much as I can. I am sure it will be okay.

  • depends on your prepregnancy weight. If your normal weight ur expected to gain more, while if ur overweight/obese you are not expected to gain as muhc. I dont think 20 lbs in 26 weeks is too bad, thats less than a pound a week. I am 27 weeks and have gained 10 lbs, but im overweight to start

  • If you were in normal weight range pp then I'd say you're fine. Even if you gain a pound a week from here on that will only put you at 34lbs. And everyone does gain at different rates. With DS I didn't gain anything til 20 weeks and then ended up gaining 30 total. That's over 2lbs/week! This time around I'm up 10lbs at 20 weeks....we'll see where i land;)
