Upstate NY Babies

**I just want to whine**

I know he's a toddler- I know toddlers have tantrums but he's been so difficult lately. I know its worse because I am getting super uncomfortable ...

I read a journal article about tantrums- and it said that its usually the kids whose parents were unattentive as an infant who are insecure and had the most tantrums...I'm not perfect but L had his needs met and I was totally attentive during infancy (still am)...wtf? Is he 3 or 4 yet...(wwaahhh)

Re: **I just want to whine**

  • That article sounds full of baloney. Tantrums are because they are figuring out who they are in the world & how everything works. And why gosh darn it can't they get their way all day every day.

    Hang in there.

  • There is no way that he is tantruming bc of anything you did or did not do as an infant.  Now maybe if a baby was severely neglected, they grow up to have more tantrums.  But a little slow to get fed one day or pick up the binky another isn't going to do anything long term.

Maybe he is getting it all out now so that he can be a perfect angel for you when baby 2 comes ;)

  • Step away from the "journals" :) we're all going through the same thing! Evan had a big one at the air show today.. because he wanted to run up and down the massive cargo plane ramp....not because I was nest/bumping during his infancy. At least I hope not!!!

I agree! I feel like DD has so many more tantrums than other kids but she is also super curious and a real busybody. Lol. It's hard to have that kid. And I know she will be the kinda kid that asks Why all the time. And I really hope JNK is right! Wouldn't that be lovely?

  • I'll just get the bad news out of the way first, three is not better than two!  Sorry to break that to you Embarrassed .  I have actually been told by a couple different child specialists that often times it is the kids who are most defiant and have lots of tantrums that are free thinkers and grow up to be leaders.  That kids who just go along with what adults say without questioning it tend to be followers who just do what they're told without questioning why.

And FYI- I was 100 times more attentative to Ty as an infant because he commanded it from day 1 than I was Brianna.  Yet, Ty's tantrums were/are 100 times worse.

I was going to say the same thing... the closer we get to 3 the worse they get. Now that he's almost 3; he talks constantly and wants to do/explore everything and Justin can be SOOO sassy about it sometimes.

Kid tantrums are normal, you did nothing wrong :)

She's right. It just gets worse, especially because words are thrown in with the screaming. Tantrums have nothing to do with the fact that you had him sit in his swing while you went to the bathroom. He's learning to be an individual, and testing the limits of what he can get away with.

    Hang in there.

  • Yeah, 3 is hell. No one really warns you about that ;) They use logic & try to reason & aren't easily distracted... ugh! The closer we get to 4 though the calmer things seem *fingers crossed*

  • well I'm not thinking its because I had to do things for myself- I know tantrums are normal- and normally I can handle them - they just seem extreme lately...and they are coming from no where- he's just exploding...

oh great- so I need to hold out til 4?! Well at least once this baby is born I can have a drink at night :-)
