Fighting formula?

It's such a struggle to get J to finish a bottle these days.  Right now we offer 4 6 oz. bottles and he maybe drinks 4-5 ounces of each.  I've tried to offer more bottles but he just pushes them away.  I've even moved to the fast flow nipple and he still doesn't finish it.  He does eat 4-5 (sometimes 6)  4 oz. jars of solids each day, but I'm still worried he's not getting enough formula.  Is this the normal progression?  We still have a while before WCM.

Re: Fighting formula?

  • At dylans pedi appt, I commented tha he's not super into nursing anymore. He told me not to worry, he's getting plenty of solids. Bottle or nursing I think it's the same. They are starting to prefer eating solids. I would jeep offering it like you usually do and keep up with the solids.

  • M never had formula but he only ever took 4-5 ounces of breast milk ever - even at 12 months.  I wouldn't worry.  If he's hungry he'll eat.

  • At that age EJ was eating between 4-3 (4 at 8 months and 3 at 9 months) 8 oz bottles a day, so approximately 24-32 oz of formula a day.  Your DS is eating approximately 24-30 a day...you have nothing to be concerned about.  He is also eating a ton of solids, so don't stress, you are doing perfectly. =)

If you want to reduce the number of feedings and increase the amounts you can stretch him between feedings little by little.  But otherwise I say what you are doing is working.

ETA: Oh and EJ had always eaten right in the guidelines Kaiser has for LO's.
