Right now my thoughts are to try to switch to part time after my leave (to 30 hours) working a 4 day week to help eliminate full time daycare(my MIL can take baby one day and my DH might try a 4 day week too) What are you ladies planning? and...
Will you meet before you go out to talk about your thoughts of after leave plans?
Or will you leave things as they and decide once baby arrives what you feel is best?
I think I am leaning towards waiting...
TIA
Re: For those planning on returning to work after baby...

We are doing the above......we are on my insurance b/c mh's is so dang expensive! So unless we want to pay tons for insurance I have to come back to work! Right now we are undecided! Which I hate..I want to know what is going on!
O and my mil will keep the baby if I do go back to work (she does not work) so we do not have to pay for daycare which is great!
The daycare we plan to use has 2, 3, 4, and 5 day options... so we hope to do 2 days.. possibly 3 if one of our employers wont let us do the 4 day work wk. We have put our deposit in and the paper work for 3 days since it will be easier to go down to 2 later if possible.
That's great about your MIL! No daycare bill and feeling more comfortable leaving baby with MIL... AWESOME...
I am very lucky! I would rather stay home though or work pt but b/c of insurance we are kinda screwed?!! I have been stressing over it this week! Then I think well maybe it would be dumb for me to not work since we do not have to pay for daycare! Its up in the air and I hate it!
Our bills require that I go back to work FT. Unfortunatly, we don't have family that is really close to us. We will have to do daycare FT.
How is your relationship with your manager? I plan on coming back part time 30 hours after 6 month of leave. I was upfront with my manager. I told her very early on, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. She was supportive of my decision.
Good luck!
My take, from the employer perspective, is that the sooner you talk to them, the better. The more notice they have of what you want to do, the more time they have to decide if they can actually allow you to go PT and if so, start working on an action plan to make it work.
I just feel it's courteous, shows you want to work WITH them, and may therefore entice them to want to work w/ you in return.
Also- what if they feel your job can't be done PT? What are you goign to do then?
The more notice you ALL have, the more options/ flexibility there may be.

None of the child care options we researched offer part-time options, so if I worked part time we'd have less income and still have to pay for full-time child care. (Well, there was one, but the waiting list for part time is about 2.5 years if you don't already have a sibling in full-time care, so it's basically not an option!)
I plan to return to work full time after 18 weeks of leave. We will probably reassess if I have another child while our first is still in day care. (Might be worth staying home at that point!)

We have been looking at day cares and the two that we like have different rates/options. For the daycare we are really liking we have to pay for the entire week, but we do not have to drop him off everyday since I will be working flewable work hours. Plus there are only 10 infants and those infants are there for a full years so its nice to know that only those will be the 10 infants in that room.?
Anyways, the other daycare was 10 dollars cheaper for a three day set up vs 10 dollars more at the place we like for the entire week.
As for when I will be going back to work it is looking like 2-3 months and then I will be working a reduce hours. However, things may change once that baby is here.?
I'm hoping to drop down to 4 days, and work 4 9-hour days to stay FT at 36 hrs/wk. I've already brought it up with our Executive Director, so that he has time to consider it, work the budget, etc etc.
My mom will take the baby 1 day/wk, leaving PT daycare for 3 days/week. It will save us about $500 month if we can do this vs FT daycare.
I'll be out of work 6-8 weeks on maternity leave. More if we can afford it, but I doubt that will happen.
Thanks ladies! I think I'll meet with my HR and see what they suggest... I can also go over hour options and what the difference in my take home and benefits will be. Then I will see how I feel about bringing it up with my boss before I go. I recently transitioned to this position in March.. so it will be a year by the time baby arrives... I've been with the company over 3 years though. They rave about being "family friendly" so I am hoping things work out..
GL to you all!
I will be returning to work full-time after maternity leave since DH is in school full-time.
My mom will be moving to town in June to keep the baby. ::Big sigh of relief:: My boss has told me it is fine to bring the baby to the office between the time I come back from maternity and when my mom gets to town.
I am really lucky to have an amazing mom who can't wait to care for her grandson and an incredible boss who is extremely flexible and understanding!
