Hi ladies,
I'm a lurker in the Binghamton area... it seems that the Nest board is a little slower, so I wanted to share this news story from this past weekend...
I realize that the damage to homes and property is far more devastating to some than the losses mentioned in this article, but I hoped that I could encourage you to think of using a different company for your pet supplies. I just am in shock that all those animals drowned and it could have been prevented.
Thank you!
Sara
Re: NBR: Boycotting PETCO
I worked for Petco for 7 years. I started as a cashier in college ,and over time, moved up to management. I know for a fact that company has nothing but the best interest of the animals at heart.
We were allowed, and encouraged, to deny the sale of even a goldfish if we didn't feel like the customer would provide the best life possible for the animal. The amount of money that was spent for veterinary care was limitless, if an animal needed ANY kind of medical care, it was taken care of. Even down to the mice that were sold as feeders.
Every store has an emergency evacuation plan for all animals, including fish. Even if the store were to lose power, there was a plan for the animals. There is clearly more to the story, so before jumping on the boycott bandwagon, think twice. While the store can be a little over priced, the amount of money that is donated to rescues makes it a little easier to swallow.

Agreed. We don't shop there simply bc I go to a local pet store instead. But PetCo is actually where we first met Abby since they hold adoption events.
If it makes you feel any better....I don't know that a lot of it is true. One of the people on Pets posted that they work at the PetCo in Syracuse and they had a bunch of binghamptons animals there.....
I live in Binghamton (actually, 10 minutes from the City of Binghamton) a huge area of Broome County was greatly impacted from the flood. Many people lost their homes.
This Petco story has been on the news, in the paper and all over FB. I don't know how accurate it is but what I can tell you is that all of the county knew we were in danger of flooding especially that area of town. We also had a flood in 2006 and we were warned that this was going to be worse than the 2006 flood. I do find it disgusting if this is 100% true but even more that their excuse is they weren't notified ! What a crock !
