Creating a bad habit?

My almost 6 month old daughter has started waking up lots during the night (we put her in the crib about 8; she's up  at about 9:45, 1:30, 4) and we are so tired that we often bring her to bed to feed her or soothe her and then we end up falling asleep in the bed with her and when we try to place her back in the crib she cries and we start all over again. How do we break this cycle!? Help!!!

Re: Creating a bad habit?

  • You do some form of sleep training and stop bringing her into bed. I always recommend The No Cry Sleep Solution first.

We bedshared (willingly) until my LO was 7 months old, we did a version of CIO to get her STTN in her crib. Nothing else worked for my stubborn kid.

  • Does she have any teeth yet?

My DD STTN on her own from 6 weeks until 5.5 months, then she started sometimes waking up once a night to nurse because of teething. On bad teething nights it could be 2 or 3x a night, but that wasn't very common.  Once a night wasn't the end of the world for us (since it was normally like 1:30- which seems better than 4 am IMO.)

    Do you nurse?

if you are nursing her I would see if your DH can put her back in the crib- I know w/ both of my LOs my DH needed to be the one to put them in the crib, vs. me because of the milk smell, I guess.

  • My question would be is that a bad habit for you?  If not, then keep on doing it.  If so, then look at making some changes.  My son still sleeps with us everynight and I love it.  Different strokes for different folks.
