34 weeks and Bedrest!

I'm 34 weeks and on bed-rest with high risk preeclampsia pregnancy.  I'm bored to tears!  if anyone has advice for helping the time go by let me know!  I'm an RN and I was a regular work-a-holic and I miss my job so much!  I go crazy sitting here thinking about what I'd be doing if I were at work right now... My Husband is in the Air Force and he works crazy hours and is never around so I need things to entertain myself in the house alone.  EEK!

  • Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl? I'm not on bedrest, but i have been making little tutus for my daughter... i've also been making a baby blanket to bring her home from the hospital with. :)

  • My DH has been working Sunday-Wednesday 11am-10pm at his office (they sell insurance and he takes the late shift) so I feel you on the being alone in the house!

I have taken up making tutus for little girl, reading ( joined the library and put books on "hold" for DH to pick up), bumping, visiting different blog sites (shitmykidsruined.com, passiveaggressivenotes.com, peopleofwalmart.com), playing internet games (I'm a fan of wordgames), reading the paper daily, and watching alot of DVR.

As a nurse, its probably harder for you but I've been checking work emails/conference calls from home- originally leadership was like "you need to rest you're duties are covered, your employees are covered--chill" but they realised that that was not going to happen and now just expect me to check in ( I did let them know once LOs are here, my checkins will be less frequent for awhile)

Just so I feel more like myself, I find that doing my hair/makeup in the AM atleast makes me FEEL better--not quite as much of a lazy pile. I also have been meticulously maintaining a manicure.

  • There's a daily bedrest check-in on the High Risk board... you might find at least commiserating with those in a similar situation gives you some ideas for how to keep the boredom at bay.
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

Thank you!  I did not know there was a high-risk board, I will check it out.

  • If you don't have Netflix sign up for the streaming feed at least. I really got my money's worth when I was on bedrest last time. I ended up watching all of LOST (I had never seen it) and it certainly kept me entertained.

  • I am also a RN and was on bedrest for 4 1/2 weeks due to PTL at 31 1/2 weeks. I found that making a sort of schedule for yourself can help the days pass by...this is when I eat, take shower, call my mom, watch tv, check the bump etc. Also as a RN you can work on some CEUs online. The bedrest check in was helpful because it was something to look forward to each day and something to put on your "to do list." There is alos a bedrest club on babycenter.com and reading their posts can help too. Also I spent a lot of time making check off lists for what we needed for LO and did some online shopping. Thoughts and prayers for you and your LO.

  • I was working full time and if I wasn't working I was constantly busy with other things like getting the nursery ready. I was admitted to the hospital at 32 weeks with severe pre e that they managed to get under control and now I am on bedrest in the hospital until I have the baby. It has been 4 weeks and sometimes I am literally bored to tears but things that have kept me occupied have been mostly surfing the internet, facebook and doing word puzzles. Hang in there momma, its hard but in the end it will be so worth it. I definitely recommend the daily check ins on the high risk board as well.
